hello people, help is appreciated. Three uni lads coming out to LA in june to work and for few months before headin down to mexico for a wild trip. If anyone could give advice on where to stay? (We want to be near the beach, near the parties, also needs to be somewhere abundant in bars/restaurants so that we cn get jobs and somewhere we can rent an apartment that isn%26#39;t going to cost a bomb, could you possibly give me the average rental costs?)

So any other advise you can give would be sweet, thanks guys. xx

Will you have work visas?

Rents at the beach are around $1,500 for a one bedroom. You could look on craigslist.com for a short term rental, because all rentals require a year lease, but you might find someone who wants to sublet for the summer.

Mexico is extremely dangerous, plus it%26#39;s very hot in the summer, I don%26#39;t think you want to go there. Do your research.

The area you describe would be Santa Monica or Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach or Redondo Beach.

hey yogachic thanks for the reply, yea we will have visas and have plenty of bar/restaurant experience so we should be ok getting jobs? Was thinkin santa monica tho did i read the water wasn%26#39;t clean??

Mexico, we have had fair share of dangerous countries so we should be ok, thanks for the concern tho. Wouldn be an adventure if %26#39;danger%26#39; wasnt involved!

Thanks Matt

Think you%26#39;d love Manhattan %26amp; Hermosa Beach. Or perhaps Huntington further south. The beach is insanely expensive especially in the summer, so look about 5 miles inland and watch the prices drop. Try Torrance, Lomita, North Redondo Beach for MB %26amp; HB, and Fountain Valley %26amp; Costa Mesa for Huntington. These will still be pretty pricey, though.

If you do go to Mexico, make sure you don%26#39;t stay near the border towns. The border is so dangerous right now even my Mexican friends are being very careful when going to Tijuana or Ciudad Juarez, so don%26#39;t be too cavalier. I%26#39;ve been to TJ and Otay many times, but you won%26#39;t catch me there right now. Cabo is probably fine or Puerta Vallarta or Ixtapa.

cheers boyelyn

beats9 Just to explain, the border area in Mexico right now is having a drug war between the Mexican drug cartels and the police and army. There have been murders and kidnappings of Mexican citizens and of US citizens that happen to live there. Once further into Mexico it seems to be quieter/safer.

Hermosa Beach in the South Bay is a good place to start, ( about 5 miles south of LAX) there are many bars for people in your age bracket. Every night is a party in summer. However, the jobs are coveted, so do your homework. The web site below has a list of the bars right at the pier/plaza.

Manhattan Beach is good too, but has a more 30s crowd.

Very popular is Huntington Beach. I understand there are quite a few people from Ireland who get jobs in the Irish Bars there. A few are

Gallagher%26#39;s Pub %26amp; Grill, Fitzgerald%26#39;s Pub, Muldoon%26#39;s Irish Pub.

There are also Hennessey%26#39;s Tavern%26#39;s in many of the cities listed.

Good luck and have a fun summer!
