Reservations,Are we early or late?

We have been trying to check some rooms availability, mostly in the Kings Beach area, for early August and they all seem to come up ';nothing available';.

Are we early or are we late?

We are coming out for our 10th anniversary. We got married at Lake Tahoe in late October 1999.

We were a little concerned about the weather at that time of year, that is why we are thinking August.

That might have to change.

Thanks in advance, Ken

If you can change your plans to September you%26#39;ll probably find more availability, less crowds and good weather.

August in California is busy. It%26#39;s the last few weeks before school starts back up and many families are squeezing that last vacation in those last few weeks of summer vacation.

August is pretty busy in the Tahoe area, but it%26#39;s not unbearable. The weather is great all summer long, in my opinion. There are some days where it might get up to 90 degrees and all the locals will complain of heat stroke(myself included); but 90 is nothing to complain about. I find it hard to believe everything is booked already. Have you tried calling any places direct?

Boy- I just have to think you are too early to book 7-8 months out. I have heard of the 6 month rule in the industry.? They are not willing to commit to any prices more than 6 months away due to changes in the economy, inflation, competition, their expenses etc. Maybe that is what is going on here?

The idea to call direct is a good idea.

I think you are early in booking too. The first 2 weeks in August will be busier - note: Local schools tend to be back in by mid August now, so the last two weeks of August you will find better availability. If you are flexible, September is even better availability and still absolutely wonderful.

I think you are too early. I%26#39;d call if you are not satisfied with the experience with online reservations.

I go in Sept and thought this past year was crazy busy for Sept. Though it%26#39;s not like the summer it was pretty dang busy.

I love summer in Tahoe. Lots of things to do which would not be going on in Sept/October - we were amazed at how many gates we coulod not get through which we can in the summer (Emerald Bay castle and campground area, Fire Lookout, etc). Staying on the north or west would give you a more laid back experience. The south is pretty busy.

I%26#39;d go in Aug, enjoy hiking, maybe a shakespeare play in Incline right on the lake, visit Tallac, tour the Emerald Bay castle, take the Safari Rose along the west coast and Emerald Bay, go sailing and hang out on some of the prettiest beaches. Most of those things are closed by Sept.

Thanks for all the replies.

We had origannaly planned to come out for the wood boat show at the beginnig of August, but they moved it to June.

Less crowded times would be preferred, but we are thinking August so more things are open as apposed to later. October cant be done due to our business is very busy then.

If we were to do early September, after Labor Day, are the old homes, boat tours and such still open?

We are not much for the gambling, late night stuff. More of the coffee at sunrise, piece and quite, non-crowded activities.

Thanks again, Ken
