South Lake Tahoe Newbie

Hi folks,

This forums seems to be the definitive resource for Lake Tahoe questions. My girlfriend and I are looking to visit South Lake Tahoe from Feb 12th - 15th. We%26#39;ll be flying into Reno from Phoenix. I think I have most of the transportation details covered. I was hoping some Tahoe experts could help me out with the following questions. (We%26#39;ll hypothetically say we%26#39;re staying at the 3 Peaks hotel.)

- Is heavenly okay for beginner skiers?

- Is it easy to get a cab in SLT?

- Is it safe to walk places at night is SLT?

- How far (minutes) of a walk is it from our hotel to ski heavenly? The gondola? The NV casino?

- Is there anyone possibility of getting stranded in Tahoe due to weather?

- I don%26#39;t really want to rent a car. Is it a must in Tahoe?

- How far away from our hotel do the airport shuttles drop you?

I know its a lot of questions, but I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance!

Until someone has your answers about 3 Peak Resorts, try doing a search:

Search in Lake Tahoe, key in 3 Peaks as your object, and click on ';GO';.

There have been quite a few posts on this resort.

Heavenly is as good as any other resort for beginners.

Do not know of the cabs scene, but there is a shuttle bus (Blue) that runs between hotels and the casinos.

SLT is as safe as any place. I have walked between casinos many nights in winter time, and never felt unsafe.

There is always a chance of getting ';delayed'; by weather in SLT. I have come close several times.

Renting a car? You can take a shuttle from/to Reno airport and your hotel in SLT. You can use the Heavenly ski shuttle, and the Blue Casino Shuttle along Hwy 50.

When you search on 3 Peaks Resort, you will find that it is 1/3 of a mile to the Gondola. An additional 10 minute walk to the casinos (in ski boots). The shuttle busses is a good thing!

Heavenly will not disappoint you! Enjoy!

Hello and welcome, you will love Lake Tahoe! For some great meals, don%26#39;t miss the buffets at Harrah%26#39;s, their breakfast buffet is pretty amazing, we also love Harvey%26#39;s 19 Kitchen at the top of Harvey%26#39;s for dinner. I have reviews of both of these places posted on this site from our last visit in May of 2007. Enjoy your vacation! :)

Three peaks is down Park street which is just off Highway 50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. You would be pretty close to the village. Walking of course will depend on what the weather is like. If it%26#39;s not snowing I think you could walk anywhere between the village and casinos any time you wanted.

SLT is super safe. Lots of activity going on plus that%26#39;s a presiden%26#39;t weekend so expect lots of company in SLT.

The furthest you can get via South Tahoe Express shuttle form the Airport is the Embassy. This is only about 3/10ths of a mile. Which means that%26#39;s pretty much as far as Hrveys %26amp; Harrahs.

You can also grab the Yellow line Shuttel on Blue Go which is the SLT bus system. Stop 16 is right outside 3 peaks and will take you right to the gondola.

You don%26#39;t have to rent a car to get around the areas over that weekend. If you take the South Tahoe Express form the Reno airport and then use the bus to get around town you should be absolutely fine.
