Hi
Im coming to La in early April with my wife and 2 children age 15 and 11 for 8 days.
Would like to check out Hollywood and Universal studio and Disneyland , bit wonder about driving to Vegas.
Would like to take in baseball game but not sure if you can buy individual game tickets as they seem tb be sold on blocks.
Is a car essential in LA, what are the best areas to stay in with children and is there public transport to Disneyworld
cheers

los angeles/ las vegas/ baseball/ familyI would suggest staying in Hollywood. Easy transport to Universal from there. Disneyland however is close to an 40 min to an hour away - you%26#39;ll want to have a car.
In Los Angeles there are both the Dodgers and the Angels (in Anaheim). Tickets can be purchased for individual games. Here is the April schedule for the Dodgers. …mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp…
Vegas is about a 5 hour easy drive through the desert. Some find it boring while many of us enjoy the scenery. You can also fly on Southwest inexpensively - be sure to fly out of Burbank Airport if you go this route - smaller, easier and faster.

losangeles.angels.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp… is the Angels schedule. Individual game tickets are avaialable. It%26#39;s the start of the season, usually the first home game sells out early.
I%26#39;d recommend getting a rental car, it%26#39;s a lot more convenient than trying to rely on busses and shuttles.
I%26#39;ve done the drive between Las Vegas and Southern California over 100 times, it%26#39;s easy to do, just avoid doing it on a Friday afternoon. Do you plan on driving back to L.A. after Las Vegas? Or flying home from Las Vegas? Reason I ask is many car rental companies charge more when you pick up the car in one location and return it to another.
Thanks for advice so far, I ve always wants to drive through a '; dark desert highway '; , any advice on a hotel to stay in on ';the strip'; which would be good for children and driving times for grand canyon, living in Australia i get used to driving long distances but only have a 9 days so dont want to spend whole time on road.
Kids love Las Vegas. Last time I was there with my family, when my daughter was about 9, she started crying like crazy on our last day because she didn%26#39;t want to leave.
I would have suggested Circus Circus or the Flamingo, but here%26#39;s a list of family-friendly hotels I found:

Forget what I said about the Flamingo. I meant to say ';Tropicana.';
Depends on you budget - but Mandalay Bay has a great pool area. New York New York has the coaster and carnival games. Circus Circus is much cheaper - but dated, also further down on the strip. We also enjoy staying at Paris - a bit more grown up - but great location and comfy rooms. The Rio is off the strip - but is all suites and also has a nice pool area.
If you drive - be sure to stop at state line and let the kids ride the coaster - something eerie about riding a big coaster in the middle of nowhere :).
in my opinion, the best hotel for children is the MGM,it has a huge pools, and the atmosphere is better.
you should find some good deals out there for the MGM.
they also have the rainforrest cafe which is fun for children

circus circus is my opinion is not a place for children anymore and it is very run down.
however the adventure dome that is located there is in a separate building and is really fun for children.

I have never understood why people bring children to Las Vegas. IMHO it is not a place for kids. I often see kids on the outskirts of the casino looking bored as nails watching their parents play on the slots, or seeing children wide eyed watching drunken, loud revelers in a very smoky casino. Do you really want to subject little lungs to all that second hand smoke? Is this really something you%26#39;d want your children looking at? I guess just don%26#39;t get it.
There is more in Vegas than just the smokey casinos... We go several times a year - with and without the kids. The activities are just different. My kids always ask to go - so I doubt that they are bored. They love the pool areas, the different coasters, the shopping centers (especially the living statues), the water show at Bellagio, the Eiffel Tower, eating steamed mussels at Paris people watching, the downtown light show, Hoover Damn, the Excalibur Show and more.
looks lie i have sparked off a bit of contoversy, we wont be gambling in vegas, its just somewhere that looks interesting to see, hopefully the kids will enjoy experience rather than watch theie parents gamble.
