Hi! My husband and I are planning to take a trip to San. Francisco, Napa, and Yosemite this summer. We are planning on a 10 day total trip. I was hoping to get some suggestions on how to break up the days between the three destination spots. Any suggestions. I am just trying to choose hotels and am not sure how many days to stay in each spot. Thanks in advance for your help. Also, where would you stay in Yosemite?
Smiles!!
Trip to San francisco, Napa, and Yosemite
What time of summer are you visiting? The forum can give more specific Yosemite advice based on the month you%26#39;re thinking of. A suggestion for an itinerary below. I think it would allow you enough leisurely exploration time and break up the driving.
Day 1, fly into SF. Day 2/3 SF
Day 4 drive to Napa, Day 5/Day 6 explore Napa.
Day 7 drive to Yosemite
Day 8,9, explore Yosemite
Day 10 Drive back to SF.
As far as where to stay in Yosemite, wherever you stay, book it ASAP. Things in the summer book up swiftly. In order of preference as far as convenience for a multiple day visit:
1. Anywhere in Yosemite Valley: Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, Curry Village (be aware there are tent cabins, cabins w/o baths, cabins w/baths, so be clear on what you%26#39;re getting), Ahwahnee Hotel (very expensive). Anything in the park, you are paying for location, and modest accommodations as opposed to luxury (Ahwahnee excepted, although even that for the price may not be considered luxury)
2. El Portal area hotels (Cedar Lodge, Yosemite View Lodge)

3. Yosemite West or Foresta condos (do a google search for Yosemite West or Foresta and numerous private rental companies come up: here%26#39;s one to get you started http://www.4yosemite.com/)
4. Try and avoid staying in Oakhurst, Mariposa, Groveland if you can...just because these give you a significant drive time to a lot of areas of the Park. They are great gateway towns with character of their own though...so if you want to be out of the craziness of the park and don%26#39;t mind over an hour drive each way, give these places a look. Groveland in particular is convenient for traveling from San Francisco, and has great options for bed and breakfast type places. These towns give you great local flavor, as well as more affordable options if you%26#39;re on a tight budget.
Here%26#39;s a driving mileage chart for the Yosemite area so you%26#39;ll know how far away your lodgings will be, whatever you book.

Trip to San francisco, Napa, and Yosemite
We stayed at www.cloudsrestcabin.com it%26#39;s located at Foresta within the park itself.
While in Napa we stayed at www.candlelightinn.com
Both these accommodations were excellent.
If value over drive is important, you really might consider one of the gateway towns. You will find you get far more amenities, services and spirit in some of these small towns for half the price or less for just a bit more of a drive. www.StayNearYosemite.com can give you a list of properties that are unique, well priced and some (Sunset Inn and Evergreen Lodge) not all that far.
Have a great trip, whereever you end up staying.
