Apologies as I am new to the forum and am sure this will already have been covered somewhere!
I have read a few other forums on times of year etc as I had originally planned to do a 3 week trip in July or Aug 09 startin off in SF then onto LA and Vegas.
Readin some posts I am now worried that this may be the worst time to come however due to fog in SF and temp in Vegas?!?
These months are ideal as June is to early..Term time as we are both students and sept the new term will start..however I dont want to waste my trip if it would be better kept to another time of year?
Many thanks in advance

Weather in July-August
Apologies again as this seems to have taken twice!
Weather in July-August
Just come on ahead.
The ';fog'; issue in San Francisco and the northern coast really cracks me up. I live 70 miles south of San Francisco on the coast.
FOG, is a marine layer caused somehow when the central valley is hot and it sucks moisture from the ocean into the coastal area. (Or something like that.)
It is not ';pea soup'; fog, it is a ';marine layer';, high in the sky, meaning you don%26#39;t see the sun. Now, sometimes, in San Francisco, you see actual low lying fog creeping in over and under the Golden Gate Bridge. This is not BAD, it is beautiful.
This ';marine layer'; usually burns off by noon.
It will be cool when this happens.
I have been in Glasgow in the summer and I do not think you will find California cold...maybe. You will find Vegas hot, but maybe a nice change for you.
Yes, the temps in Vegas will be HOT. But it is a dry heat and you will probably be in an air conditioned car, hotel, or casino, so don%26#39;t ';sweat'; it.
Enjoy. You will have a great trip.
Too bad Mark Twain never said it best ';The coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco';.
Come and enjoy the city. Yes, this tends to be the foggy months but you never really know how it is going to be. The city has so many micro climates. Sometimes all you need to do is go to another neighborhood. Downtown and the south of the city tend to be warmer than the area out by the ocean. Just always be prepared to bring a sweater or jacket along and layer. One minute it is sunny the next the fog rolls in. If your craving warm weather a 1/2 hour drive across the Golden Gate bridge usually has warmer weather. Anyway Las Vegas will be so hot you%26#39;ll be thankful for SF natural air conditioning. The fog rolling in is quite a sight to be seen!!!!!
We went to SF at teh end of July last summer and it was fine. Not really foggy at all. Not particularly cold. It%26#39;s one of those things that changes from day to day. You%26#39;re either lucky or you are not. Bring a fleece or some other kind of jacket and some jeans and you%26#39;ll be fine.
