We will be coming to LA in april for 11 nights and have not got a clue where to stay, we are a couple in our 40s with a 14 year old daughter who loves to shop in particular abercrombie and hollister!! we want to do the usual tourist trips and some shopping plus a few days by the hotel pool not disney but maybe universal one day, we are not thinking of getting a car for the whole of our trip but will if we need one. The areas I have been looking at are hollywood, downtown LA, beverly hills, or santa monica we would like to be able to walk to some restaurants bars shops ect but are also happy to use public transport to get a bit further, our budget is about £120 per night thanks
what area to stay in LA
If it is withini jyour budget, look into a hotel in Santa Monica which is by the beach and a nice little town with lots of places to walk to.
Otherwise West Hollywood/Sunset Strip or Hollywood itself are great neighbourhoods that are more centrally located to most touristy sights
what area to stay in LA
I would split your time between the two areas. Stay in Hollywood for the first part of your trip (you%26#39;ll save money on hotels there) and then splurge in Santa Monica for the second part of your trip (Santa Monica is more expensive than most area in L.A.).
You%26#39;ll be hard-pressed to find a hotel in Santa Monica with a pool in your price range but you can do it easily in Hollywood.
Abercombie is on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica as well as in the Grove shopping center (which is attached to the world famous Farmers Matket on the corner of 3rd St %26amp; Fairfax Av (15 or 20 minutes from central Hollywood by bus). The Grove%26#39;s location is one of the premium stores -- 3 full floors of A%26amp;F shopping.
Hollister is in the Westfield Shopping Center in Century City and the Westside Pavilion in West LA. By public transit, Westfield is easier to get to -- as it is on Santa Monica Bl on the way to Santa Monica. However, the Westside Pavilion is a cozier place to shop and it%26#39;s indoors.
Santa Monica sounds like what you are looking for, you can use the bus to get to Westwood, Bev Hills, The Getty Center quite easily. Consider getting a car from Avis in Santa Monica, Sat and Sun would be best because the traffic getting to Universal is much lighter. After Universal, you can see Hollywood, and at night take a drive up to Griffith Observatory (don%26#39;t miss it). The second day you can see a lot more of the city or maybe drive up to see Santa Barbara or drive south to see Laguna Beach.
Thanks for the replies santa monica it is!!
You will be very happy!
