What to do waiting for train in downtown San Diego

My hubby and I are flying into San Diego and will have about three hours to kill (noon - 3) waiting for an Amtrak train to San Clemente. Any suggestions on a quick lunch and something to see within walking distance of the station? We will have suitcases, but just one each rolling behind us - we travel pretty light.

The train station is about 1 block from the bayfront so I%26#39;d walk there. You could take the passenger ferry across the bay,or just walk along the bayfront path. There are a few restaurants. IF you go to your right at the bay you%26#39;ll pass the old sailing ship Star of India. I don%26#39;t know if you can go on board with the suitcases. IF you go to your left and continue walking you%26#39;ll pass the USS Midway aircraft carrier, again not sure if you can go on board with your luggage.

Continuing along the bayfront you%26#39;ll come to the Seaport Village outdoor mall. IF you get tired walking there should be pedicabs available. They are like rickshaws but pulled by a person riding a bike. You pay what you think it is worth.

you can start walking along broadway to gaslamp quarter for food, or have quick lunch in Westfield shoppingtown horton plaza. Return back by Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade to checkout Seaport Village outdoor mall, USS Midway

Good Ideas so far,

There is a city busy, I think line 992 that goes from the airport terminals with a stop at the Train Station. It is about a 10 minute ride.

If you want to go to Horton Plaza -- use the same bus but ride further. A lot of restaurants in the shopping center and Gaslamp District.

If you feel like Italian food, then Little Italy would be interesting. In that case I would take a cab -- ask to be dropped at about India and Fir -- then wander in the neighborhood headed back towards downtown. The train station is about 10 blocks south of Little Italy.

I second tootallsd. You should catch MTS Route 992 (http://www.sdmts.com) from the airport to downtown. This bus stops across the street from Santa Fe Depot, where you%26#39;ll be catching Amtrak, and then continues east along Broadway. You should get off at Third Avenue and have lunch at Horton Plaza, or get off at Fourth Avenue (end of the line) and have lunch in the Gaslamp Quarter.

After lunch, take a leisurely stroll back to the train station. If you have time, walk a couple blocks further west from the train station and take in the sights and sounds of the waterfront before catching your train.

Also, note that both the 3:00 and 4:00 trains stop in San Clemente, and your train ticket is good on either trip.
