1st time to LA, will be at Anaheim (Disney) 19-21st then 21st-24th (shop,eat,sightsee,1 day universal studios) in hollywood.
I figured out a reasonable hotel in Anaheim but having a hell of a time for the 2nd part. I know West Hollywood/Beverly Hills is the best part but would Little Tokyo be that much worse in reality to go sightsee/shop with the trains/public transit? It says 10 minutes drive on googlemaps between these two areas but is that realistic? I might rent a car for one day out of the 3.
thanks for your help in advance.
Big Diff between Downtown LA vs. West Hollywood Hotel??
Hi Katana - if it were me, I would not stay in Little Tokyo, especially if West Hollyood %26amp; Beverly Hills are the areas that you most want to see. First, its not a 10 minute drive from Little Tokyo to West Hollywood or Beverly Hills - its 20 minutes, minimum, and that%26#39;s with no traffic. During rush hours that could easily be tripled. While the MetroRail can be accessed within a reasonable walk from Little Tokyo, West Hollywood %26amp; Beverly Hills are not near the MetroRail, so you%26#39;d be relying on buses and taxis to get around. I%26#39;m not really that sure how the bus service would be between Little Tokyo and the other two areas - there are those on the board who are much more knowledgeable about the bus system than I - but you can expect the drive times above to be even longer if you go by bus.
May I ask what sparked your interest in staying in Little Tokyo? There may be some good reasons to do so (its near LA%26#39;s fashion district, if that%26#39;s the sort of shopping you had in mind) but its also surrounded by some areas that are really not the best parts of the city, to put it mildly.
Big Diff between Downtown LA vs. West Hollywood Hotel??
Really depends on what you want to do besides Universal. West Hollywood and Little Tokyo are definitely not your only choices, or necessarily your best...is this just adults, or kids too? Any idea of your itinerary?
Yes, there%26#39;s an enormous difference.
Did you look in Hollywood? There are cheaper hotels there like Orchid Suites and Celebrity Hollywood. Or, the Motel 6 on Whitley if your budget is very tight.
The fact is: Hotels in Anaheim are less expensive than those in Los Angeles because, well, they%26#39;re in Anaheim!
So, expect to pay more in Los Angeles.
Btw, 21s-24th of what month?
Look into the Hollywood/West Hollywood area. More centrally located and a lot more fun to walk around at
It%26#39;s just me and the wife and it would be this month. I saw a decent hotel in Little Tokyo but I guess I%26#39;ll keep searching the Hollywood hotels instead. Seems like the orchid is pretty expensive right now (closer to $180).
thanks for all the replies so far and advice!
Katana, I%26#39;m not sure where you got a room rate of $180 from. Perhaps, you%26#39;re looking at the Orchid Hotel in downtown L.A. instead of the Orchid Suites Hotel in Hollywood.
If you go to Orchid Suite%26#39;s homepage (orchidsuites.com) they have room rates starting at $99. They do not take %26#39;instant reservations%26#39; on their website, you have to email them for reservations but I would just call them and take care of it over the phone, This is a popular hotel and the rooms sell out quickly.
Reservations: (800) 537-3052
In case the 800 number doesn%26#39;t work in Canada:
(323) 874-9931
Be sure to call during regular business hours as the night staff cannot take reservations.
Exoedia.com is offering the %26#39;deluxe one bedroom suite%26#39; for $129 for your dates.
