We%26#39;re staying at the Del from Dec. 22 - Dec. 26 and are already familiar with what they have to offer restaurant and holiday wise. Any other special places we should consider? We will have our car with us. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Christmas dinner recommendations?I am not sure exactly what you are asking.
Do you want recs for restaurants during your stay or do you specifically want a rec for Xmas dinner?
Does your group include children and what type of food do you like/dislike?
There are many special occasion restaurants around town and many have special menus for Xmas.
I don%26#39;t remember if you have been to SanDiego before.
Some possibilities for adults for special occasions include: Bertrand at Mr.A%26#39;s

George%26#39;s California Modern

We can help more if we know a little more about what you want.
Christmas dinner recommendations?Humphreys on Shelter Island will have a nice spread.
Nope.
The del is as good as it gets for Christmas dinner.
For Christmas Dinner I suggest:
The Marine Room in La Jolla. I have eaten Christmas Eve dinner here and it is very nice.

Also there, with the same chef is The Shores at the La Jolla Shores Hotel. Very nice food, warm setting and nice service. We like it here when we want just a bit more relaxed.

Also in La Jolla is The La Valencia. There are 3 choices, I will be eating at the Whaling Bar.

And in OB is Thee Bungalow. It is French and very good. I have eaten Christmas dinner there in the past and they have a nice menu.

One last, closer to your hotel is Mr. A%26#39;s. Really a nice evening.

Have a good trip
The Brigantine in Coronado is a decent place for somewhat inexpensive steaks/seafood.

www.yelp.com/sandiego has dining reviews for all of the places people have suggested to you.
Yes, I was looking for a rec. for Christmas Day dinner. We stayed at the Del last Christmas. We have a reservation at Lambs Theater for Festival of Christmas on the 23rd and for An American Christmas (dinner show) at the Del on the 24th. I%26#39;m trying to decide the best place for Christmas Day dinner. We had the buffet at the Del last year but went late and it was picked over. We are retired with no children and like things for the holidays to be very special. Staying at the Del is certainly special in and of itself. We%26#39;ve reserved an oceanfront suite at the Del and it would be easy to just eat at the Del again, but were wondering if there was anything better. With no family in that area we just want to make it as nice as possible. Thanks.
I have been reading many yelp.com reviews for dining in the downtown/gaslamp area and Oceanaire get some of the highest ratings and reviews.
DO NOT GO TO LA VALENCIA FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER!!!!!
We have gone here for several years and always had a great experience. But this year 08%26#39; they turned it into a buffet..and yes buffet and CHEAP are one and the same. For over $60 per person with tip and tax included which comes to around $80 a person, before drinks...WE GOT ROBBED.
The food selection was terrible. For example a bowl of lettuce with another bowl of croutons as their salad..come on! Funky looking pastas, wrapped fish suprises and other odd things, none of them good. They did have ham, turkey and roast beef, but the stuffing was like eating at Boston Market, gross potatoes, NO gravy, bread etc. An assortment of ok desserts, but just overall mediocore at best. For the amount of money we paid I was appaled! With the money we spent we could of gone to Roppongi, Rainwaters, Georges or any other upscale restaurant and had a wonderful meal.
I guess they switched to a buffet due to the recession, but if their going to serve such crappy food LOWER THE PRICE!! I honestly felt like I was in Vegas at any of the moderate hotels buffets.
Stay away at all costs, it ruined our Christmas and we will NEVER go back!
CHEAP, GROSS, DISGUSTING, AVERAGE FOOD for $100 a person, they must think the public are idiots!!
NEVER AGAIN!
P.S. There are also rumors that the hotel is being sold. Guess the current management could care less about the quality of their food!
We ended up having the Christmas dinner buffet at the Del again. It was nice but not as special as we would have liked. People were so strange at the dessert tables acting like they had been dessert deprived for a long time - ha. The food was pretty good but the buffet was set out in an unusual manner - chef%26#39;s choice not the traditional way. For example, there wasn%26#39;t a carving station - you had to look around and figure out where he had decided to place each item. Oh well, could have been worse. Thanks for all the help and Happy New Year to all of you.
Happy New Year to you as well, other than the buffet dinner, how was your stay at the Del? :)
