Construction on Scenic Rt 1??

I am traveling from Monterey to Cambria this week.

According to AAA there is construction going on along Rt.1 from Andrew Molera State Park to Lucia.

Is that accurate??? If so, what are some alternate suggestions?

Thanks in advance

D

Construction on Scenic Rt 1??

I haven%26#39;t heard about delays, although I haven%26#39;t really researched it. I did check the Caltrans road conditions website (www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/maint/road/upmon.htm) and didn%26#39;t find anything that looked troublesome. Take a look at the site and call their 800 number for more information if no one here knows more than I do. Good luck.

Construction on Scenic Rt 1??

There%26#39;s almost always some sort of road on Highway 1, especially at Lucia. Any road work along the 1 will be intermittent and brief. If you do have to stop at a flagman%26#39;s request, just use that time to take in the view. Sometimes they have to close one of the lanes for repairs and they have to alternate north/south traffic with the one available lane. The wait usually lasts no more than a few minutes.

Caltrans website shows no current road work activity for Highway 1 in the Central Coast area.

If you%26#39;re still concerned, you can take Highway 68 to Salinas and pick up the 101 freeway southbound to Highway 46 West just south of Paso Robles (DO NOT confuse with 46 East to Fresno/Bakersfield). 46 West meets Highway 1. Make a right turn. Cambria is about 4 miles north of the 46/1 junction.

Kibblesmom,

Thank you for your alternate itinerary suggestions. They are very helpful.

If the road construction is as you say then I certainly can take Rt 1 and enjoy the view. I am in no great rush.

Thanks again,

d

Thanks PG,

I did not know about that website. It is a useful tool. So far, no one is telling me anything alarming. Maybe AAA is not up to date.

Thanks again,

Hi d

Here%26#39;s caltrans website:

http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

Just type ';1'; in the box for current road conditions. Hopefully, you%26#39;ll have internet access available to confirm any construction going on at the time of your visit.

Highway 1 is meant to be taken slow and savored. Have a nice drive!
