Outlet shopping near the Catamaran Resort

First time visitors to the San Diego Area and staying at the Catamaran Resort.....hoping to get some shopping in too......any advice would be appreciated!

Outlet shopping near the Catamaran Resort

Hmmm... outlets are not near the Catamaran. You%26#39;ll either have to go north to Carlsbad (very nice outlet mall), south to the border, or east to Viejas (Alpine). Either way, you%26#39;d need a car.

There is no shopping at the beach.

IF you have a car you can go to the Viejas Outlet center across from the Viejas casino and do 2 activities.

You can go north about 30min. to the town of Carlsbad which is near the Legoland park and do shopping at the outlet mall there.

IF you don%26#39;t have a car you can take our lightrail (electric train) that we call the trolley south to the last stop which is right at the USA side of the border with Mexico and there is an outlet mall there.

Many people here just go to our regular malls to shop and believe that outlet malls have either last year%26#39;s merchandise or merchandise made specially for the outlets.

Here are the outlet mall web sites so you can see which stores are in each of them.

Thanks.... we will have a car...I am interested in shopping..... traveling with my husband and 16 year old son who are not so interested....any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

louhug, I am not a person that goes specifically to outlet malls to shop unless I happen to be there.

Are you mainly interested in clothes? I didn%26#39;t think the exchange rate was in your favor at this time so am not sure that clothes shopping would be great here for you. We have a high end mall that is closer in town which is :

The neighborhood north of the beach where you are staying is called La Jolla Cove and your whole family may enjoy spending time there. It has many small rock enclosed (cove ) beaches with a grassy park above. One of the beaches is set aside for scuba/snorkeling.

There are also nearby places to rent or take a tour with sea kayaks. The area ALSO has many high end boutiques for shopping and good restaurants so everyone could do something while there.

Sorry ,I forgot the link for downtown La Jolla cove shopping.

Thanks for the info. We are travelling in March. The beach coves sound amazing. Looking for a vareity of experiences so what ever you can suggest would be greatly appreciated.

My son is a movie fanatic. Is it too far to go to LA for a day and do a Hollywood tour? we will be in San Diego for a week and would like to expreience as much as possibel without spending every day driving for hours.

I wouldn%26#39;t do a ';Hollywood'; tour but I%26#39;d go and do a STUDIO tour. Universal is more like a theme park. Then there%26#39;s the Warner Bros. Studio tour. these are north of hte city of LA.

LA is at LEAST 2+hrs. away but since you are in town for a whole week you might consider doing it anyway.

You might want to spend 1 night there, OR you might save it for another trip.
