Tahoe City Good eats, pizza, mexican, just plain good?

I have been so busy I forgot to post this question earlier. My family leaves at the crack of dawn tomorrow (Sunday) for 5 nights in Tahoe City and skiing at Alpine, Squaw, etc. Want some good reliable restaurant ideas. We (well, the teenagers) love pizza %26amp; Mexican and we all enjoy high end quailty food too. May be going to Sunnyside for New Years (have a reservation, just trying to finalize thise plans) and need 4 other nights dining ideas. Any ideas are appreciated! And by the way, how is the snow? Have the recent storms made a big enough difference?

Blue Agave for Mexican is OK - large selection of different tequilas and margaritas for adults.

We like Jiffy%26#39;s in Tahoe City for Pizza.

The recent snow has made a HUGE difference! You%26#39;ll love the skiing or boarding.

Food-my favorite subject! In Squaw Valley, I like Graham%26#39;s (high end), Plump Jack Cafe (med-high end), Fireside Pizza, and Mamasake (great, but expensive sushi). In Tahoe City, I like River Grill (med-high), Rosie%26#39;s Cafe (inexpensive, casual), Christy Hill (high end), Wolfdale%26#39;s (fusion, med-high), and Firesign Cafe (great breakfast or lunch). I%26#39;ve heard excellent things about Evergreen, but haven%26#39;t had a chance to try it. My favorite Mexican is Caliente, in King%26#39;s Beach. If you have carnivores in your group, The Old Range Steak House is excellent and worth the trip to Carnelian Bay. Spindleshanks, also in CB, is great.

If you feel like stopping in Truckee on your way in or out of town, Dragonfly (Asian inspired, high end), Zano%26#39;s (great pizza and pasta), Pianeta (Italian med-high), Tacos Jalisco (authentic and cheap) and 50/50 Brewing Company are my favorites. For a small town, we have good eats!

Last summer we tried Bacchi%26#39;s Inn Italian food, near Tahoe City. It was established 1939, is very casual. Great for a family, with soup and salad brought to the table, to serve yourself. Lots of pasta, and other dishes were very good.

Thank you Spotcat and others. We are in Tahoe City now (a condo at Tavern Shores). Yesterday we skied at Sugar Bowl but this week we will be going to Alpine and Squaw. The snow was great but more would be even better! We%26#39;ll be here till Friday so keep the suggestions coming. And how about movie theaters? We might want to catch one of the new ones sometime this week. Anything in TC?

Cobblestone Mall, in Tahoe City, has a theater. Brockway Theater, in Kings Beach, isn%26#39;t very far away.

In the Sugar Bowl area, Rainbow Lodge has wonderful food and a cozy, classic lodge atmosphere.

How could I forget River Ranch? It%26#39;s right there on 89 and Alpine Meadows Rd. The food and service are both great! You have a choice of high-end riverfront dining or good appetizers in the bar. Again, it has a classic Tahoe feel.

Sorry there isn%26#39;t quite enough snow. Come back in February!

Spotcat, I had heard that Rainbow Lodge was closing. Is it open? I had also heard not great reviews of it over the last year or so. We used to love to go there, but were disappointed to hear reviews saying it had gone downhill. Have you been lately and how is it?

GingerPeachy, that is an adorable cat! What a cutie!

Yes, Rainbow Lodge is open. The restaurant is serving all three meals, bar food available betweeen lunch and dinner. I was there a couple of weeks ago and thought the food was as good as ever.

The local rumour mill is working overtime concerning Rainbow Lodge, as well as other places near Donner Summit. I%26#39;ve even had people tell me they%26#39;re certain it%26#39;s closed. Not so, but who knows what the future will bring.

spotcat and others: We had a funtime last night (New Years Eve) at Sunnyside. The dinner was very good and we stayed until about 12:30am, just long enough to bring in the new year. Monday we had dinner at River Ranch which was very nice. Went to the movies in Incline on Tues. Tonight is our last night and we want Mexican. I know you mentioned Caliente in King%26#39;s Beach but what about Blue Agave here in TC? We have driven by a few times and it certainly is close by. Would you recommend that we drive to KB or try Blue Agave? BTW we have skiid the last 4 days and it has been great. Beautiful blue skies and the snow is very good even though there hasn%26#39;t been any fresh for a bit.

Sunnyside is such a great place, what did you have for dinner? Happy New Year! :)

It was a very good dinner! I had wild mushroom soup followed by the filet which was perfectly cooked. My husband had the fried zucchini app. followed by the tournedo of beef with lobster won ton. My daughter had the argula salad then the prime rib. We had the hula pie for dessert. It was all very good. Would love to go back in the summer to enjoy the views.
