Indian Wells with Teens

I have a conference next April in Indian Wells. Would my 13 and 15 year old get bored? They%26#39;er genrally happy with a pool, but any other suggestion? Also, I am flying from Montreal, would a direct flight to Las Vegas and then a drive be the easiest way?

Las Vegas is a good 4 1/2 hour drive from Indian Wells. It would be better to fly into Palm Springs or Ontario Airport.

LOTS of Canadians come here in the winter and springs, there should be better flights for you to find.

Not knowing your teenagers, it can be quiet in Indian Wells, unless you are at one of the larger hotels like The Hyatt Grand Champions or Renaissance Esmeralda. Even so, they can%26#39;t get around and those hotels are not near anything for them

At night there would be things for you to do together.

Thanks PsP, I think I will take your advice and fly straight to PSP.

My kids do love nature, so maybe a couple of guided hikes or possibly an ATV type tour (never done this before!) Any other thoughts?

Many thanks!

Hopefully, you%26#39;ll rent a car.

Definitely drive into Palm Springs and take the tram up the mountain...there are hiking trails at the mountain top and it%26#39;s a nice break if it%26#39;s really hot in the desert (most of the snow will be gone). The temperatures are about 30 - 40 degrees cooler and the ride up gives a nice view of the desert communities and the different ';life zones'; as you go from desert to cool pines at the top. Also, we often stay at the top of the tram until dark and then watch the desert lights as we come down. Our teens love it.

Our teens also like the water park in Palm Springs called Knott%26#39;s Soak City.

We like to go into Palm Springs (either to the tram or water park) on Thursday and then go to the VillageFest in downtown Palm Springs that night (it%26#39;s only on Thursday nights and it%26#39;s a pretty unique street fair). You can also make a quick dash through the Art Musuem that%26#39;s downtown and has free admission on Thursdays after 4pm. Our kids were initially turned off at the idea of an Art Museum but we ended up having to drag them out...and we%26#39;ve gone back since!

There%26#39;s a zoo called the Living Desert in Palm Desert (pretty close to Indian Wells) but go in the morning cause it gets hot. Since your kids like the outdoors it might appeal to them.

If they%26#39;re girls have lunch and shop on ';El Paseo';, a high end shopping street in Palm Desert. There%26#39;s also a basic shopping mall in Palm Desert.

You can also drive through Joshua Tree but my teens find it to be a long boring ride and would rather drive into P.S. and go up the tram to hike.

There are hot air balloon rides and the ATV and Hummer tours but they can get pretty pricy. If you rent a car you can find some pretty nice places to hike (buy a $19 book called ';140 great hikes in and around Palm Springs';).

We%26#39;ve also gone horse back riding at Smoke Tree Stables and I think it%26#39;s in Palm Desert. It was just our family and a guide and the horses were very easy. There are other stables too that we might try next time for some different scenery. Go in the morning before it gets too hot.

Have fun! We%26#39;re headed to Indian Wells next week with five teens!

Thanks for the information, this is great. We are going in mid-April. Where did you stay in Indian Wells? and where would you recommend with the teens? thanks.
