Hey folks, I would apprecite some input as to where to base ourselves for the last 4 days of our trip.
We will be coming from San Fran, and looking to stay somewhere chilled near a beach. We will travel out during the day, but would like somewhere with decent restaurants, a few bars, funky shops etc.
I have narrowed it down to either Cambria or Pismo. Can anyone shed any light on which might be better for our criteria?
Cambria or Pismo?
Cambria would be a very nice choice, there are several great places to stay along Moonstone Beach Drvie. The Sow%26#39;s Ear Cafe, Black Cat Bistro and Robin%26#39;s are all great choices for meals in Cambria. The shops are also fun in Cambria, check out Seekers Glass Gallery and Fermentations there. www.centralcoast.com Have fun! :)
Cambria or Pismo?
I like the town of Cambria very much! It has a very nice ';vibe'; with cute shops and restaurants. The scenery is great and there is a nice path to walk along the shore BUT it is not a wide white sandy beach where you lay out and sun. It is kind of seaweedy and rocky. We don%26#39;t mind because we are beach walkers and not beach/sunbathers.
Pismo is geared more toward families. It has a wide sandy beach great for long walks, surfing, boogie boarding, etc. There%26#39;s also a pier you can walk out on over the water. Downtown Pismo is located right above the beach and pier with lots of funky shops, eateries, etc. From Pismo Beach you can visit Avila Beach to the north, San Luis Obispo, the Edna Valley wine country, the Village of Arroyo Grande with its western themed charms.
Cambria is an artist community nestled in pine trees next to the sea. It%26#39;s more of a romantic location with all its charming inns across from Moonstone Beach. The shops here are very quaint and a little more upscale than what you%26#39;ll find in Pismo. Cambria also has some of the area%26#39;s finest restaurants tucked into storefronts or converted homes. From Cambria you can visit Hearst Castle, the elephant seal rookery, Paso Robles wine country, the very small community of Harmony just south of town and the beach towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay.
Be sure to explore Montana de Oro State Park south of Morro Bay. There%26#39;s a wonderful trail leading out to cliffs overlooking the ocean where the waves crash dramatically against the rocks.

Also keep in mind that Pismo Beach and Cambria are only 45 minutes away from each other and you can still visit either/or while you%26#39;re here, especially with 4 days available to you.
Thanks folks. All the input has been really helpful.
I%26#39;ve just booked the Fogcatcher Inn in Cambria.
I hope you enjoy your stay there, we have stayed twice next door at the Pelican Cove Inn, beautiful location, you can walk to the Sea Chest or the Moonstone Beach Bar %26amp; Grill for meals. Enjoy Cambria! :)
Have a wonderful stay on the coast.
Cambria Pines Lodge and Las Cambritas both offer somewhat of a bar scene with live entertainment, etc.
