We will have about 1 1/2 days w/o kids next week in S.F. Any suggestions on unique outings, restaurants, sights? We will be at the Fairmont. We prefer more casual, local eats-ethnic is fine.
Thanks in advance for your time,
kim
adult weekend s.f. suggestions?
Perhaps a walking tour? www.sfcityguides.org They do a variety of tours in all part of town. They are free; tips gladly accepted.
Rent bikes and ride along the bay, across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, have lunch and take the ferry back.
Bhutan exhibit at the Asian Art museum, Andy Warhol at the deYoung (surprisingly good), Artistic Luxury (Faberge, Tiffany, Lalique) at the Legion of Honor.
Restaurants: A16, Mamacita, Bistro Aix (all in the Marina), Capanina (Cow Hollow), Nopa (Divisadero, north of the Panhandle).
adult weekend s.f. suggestions?
check out the notoriously delicious Farmer%26#39;s Market at the Ferry Building Saturday 8:00a to 2:00p
if you mean the weekend of April 4, there%26#39;s the Cesar E. Chavez Holiday Parade and Festival 2009 on Saturday in the Mission District Saturday 11:00a to 5:00p on 19th Street between Dolores and Guerrero http://www.cesarchavezday.org/
Suggest you refine the things a little about what you like %26amp; you%26#39;ll get better recommendations.
For examples are what foods to you like: Sushi, Japanese, Chinese, Dim Sum, Italian, Greek, Indian, Seafood, Steaks, Mexican, ';Diner,'; Fusion, or ???? SF has a wealth of all of the these and more; most locally owned.
Similarly SF has more unique things than you can do in a lifetime - focus you request and we%26#39;ll do a better job - shopping (and what for), reading, theatre, walking, museums (and what kind), touristy/sightseeing things, movies, any hobbies, architecture, or ????
The more specific the questions, the better the answers,

I was in SF last week and ate at a restaurant/bar called Levende - www.levendesf.com - on Mission near Duboce.
The food and cocktails were great, the atmosphere and decor were cool and the night we went they had a very good DJ spinning down-tempo house music.
Great suggestions from you all! I love the biking and museum suggestions and that should take care of our very limited time. It has been many years since I have visited SF, but I never visited the Golden Gate Bridge. Thank you!
Thanks also for the restaurant suggestions. I am less interested in a huge dining experience as we will be having several nice meals with my husbands work related events. I prefer all ethnic, with italian my least favorite, but I don%26#39;t want to spend much time eating.
I%26#39;ll be putting some more time into planning in the next day or so, so I%26#39;ll probably return with more detailed questions.
Again, thanks to you all for taking the time to give me such great lists,
kim
If biking %26amp; museums appeal to you, consider renting bikes and doing GG Park as it%26#39;s got both the DeYoung %26amp; CA Science Academy.
As I remember there is at least one place you can rent at the Haight (east) end of the Park. From there you can ride west into/around the park, visit the museums (and tea garden?) if you desire and you can end up out at the west (ocean) end. Irving Street (two blocks south of the park) has plenty of commercial clusters where you can stop in to eat and/or pick up something to picnic in the park. (Main ones are a few blocks around 9th Ave and west of 19th Ave.)
Depending on your stamina and desires you could even bike north through the Presidio and end up at GG Bridge.
Hope this is helpful,
hlo
