Hey we will be visiting the park on June 21st and June 22nd as part of our honeymoon.
We want to see all the major sights: Tunnel view, Yosemite Falls, Glacier Point, and Bridalveil Falls.
We were also planning on hiking the Mist trail to the top of vernal and coming back down the John Muir trail.
Also, we were planning on driving out to Bodie Ghost Town on either Sunday the 21st or Monday the 22nd.
First, is this too much to do given our time in the park? Should we just skip Bodie and spend more time in Yosemite?
2nd, what are the crowds like? Are we better off going to Yosemite on Monday and Bodie on Sunday... or Yosemite on Sunday and Bodie on Monday?
Visiting June 21st and June 22nd
On the 20th, the day before our trip, we have the whole day planned to drive up. We are planning on stopping at Sequoia and Kings Canyon for a couple hours on the way up.
We are staying at the Homestead Cottages in Oakhurst, CA.
Visiting June 21st and June 22nd
Oh my yes you are packing a good amount into a little box of time!
So, say you arrive on the 20th to Oakhurst with a stop in Sequoia. This Sequoia side trip is really far longer than most anticipate, ~140 miles from where you exit the highway near Visalia, through Lemon Cove and Three Rivers then into the park and back out heading to Fresno. These are NOT fast miles! So make your stops there, see the trees, enjoy and plan an early start from Oakhurst the next day into Yosemite.
Plan at least an hour and a half to get to the valley. From the Valley to Bodie, perhaps 3 something hours, and back again. This isn%26#39;t a quick side trip from Yosemite.
You should likely cut bodie out of your plans unless when you leave you are heading to Tahoe, DV or LV, then it would make sense to take the extra time to hit Bodie.
Have a great trip, there is plenty to do in Yosemite and one of your days is a full hiking day.
You will fill the two days with the Yosemite activities you have listed! Like charlotte said, unless you are going out over toulumne meadows, skip Bodie. While its fasinating, it doesn%26#39;t compare to Yosemite.
If Toulumne Meadows isn%26#39;t on the list, add it! To me, its the most beautiful part of the park. As for crowds, you are in prime time 7 days a week.
From you hotel, you have a 40 min drive to Wawona and another 45 to the valley or Glacier point from Wawona.
Where are you driving from? That will determine if you have time to see sequoia. It would be a basic drive-by with the long drive. To Oakhurst it will take you 2.5-3 hours to get from sequoia.
Bodie is a great place to visit, but I%26#39;d skip it to spend more time in Yosemite. You%26#39;re talking about close to 7 hours of driving (back and forth) for this day trip.
If you want to see all the major sights and hike to the top of Vernal, you%26#39;ll need 2 days in Yosemite. You can easily spend a whole day just going out to Glacier Point. There%26#39;s some great, easy hikes out that way to Taft Point and Sentinel Dome. There%26#39;s also Mariposa Grove with all the Sequoias. Instead of stopping at Vernal, you might consider going all the way to Nevada Falls. It%26#39;s a little more strenuous, but not too bad, at least IMHO. If you%26#39;re feeling really energetic, you could try going to the top of Yosemite Falls.
Expect to see a lot of people. Just realize that there will be crowds especially around the villages and some of the more popular sights (lower Yosemite Falls, Glacier Point later in the day and Mariposa Grove). If you go to Maripose Grove, take the trails since most people don%26#39;t and you can easily get away from the crowds that way.
