LA 6 days

Hey everyone can i please request some expertise knowlege. I am planning to travel to LA on the 8th April and returning on the 13th April. Me and my friend are two 22 year old girls and are looking to enjoy ourselves and take in the tourist attraction. We are not planning to hire a car as we are not confident in drivng in foreign countries. Where would you say would be the best place to stay as a base? The places we would like to visit our Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Unversal Studios. If possible we want to stay in San Diago for one night to visit that area? Could you please let me know what the local transport is like out their and if its easy to get around?

Thank You xxx

LA 6 days

In my opinion 5 night is way to much for LA.

What do you want to see particular in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Hollywood?

LA 6 days

I disagree with the previous poster. In view of the fact that you will be ';jet-lagged'; when you arrive, it will take time to adjust so the first day will not be very productive. If, in addition, you spend a day in San Diego, then that means only 3 solid days in L.A., which is the MINIMUM time you%26#39;ll need as you will be relying upon public transit (which is slower than driving) to get you around.

The best place to stay without a car is Hollywood. It is served by both the metro rail and metro bus systems as well as a coach tour company called Starline (starline.com) whose offices are in the courtyard of the famous Chinese Theater which is in the center of Hollywood. Starline offers numerous tours including a ';hop on, hop off'; tour that goes to 19 popular tourist sites.

By public transit, it will take about an hour each way to transfer from Hollywood to Santa Monica. As far as visiting San Diego using public transit, it%26#39;s a long ride, i.e., a metro rail ride from Hollywood to Union (rail) station, followed by a 3 hour train ride. (Of course, there is likely to be %26#39;waiting time%26#39; between the metro rail and the train and the transfer time from the SD rail station to your hotel).

With only 5 days to spend here, I%26#39;m not sure that I would include San Diego because of the time it will take to get there and back.

Our public transit system, overall, pales in comparison to most. L.A, is a %26#39;car city%26#39;. As I said, Hollywood is the best choice to public transit but don%26#39;t expect it to be like London.

Look at our FAQs section (a link at the top of the TOPIC LIST). Look at the NEIGHBORHOOD sections as well as the LOCAL TRANSPORTATION section (where there%26#39;s a cool map) and the ITINERARY IDEAS section which will give you an idea of how long it takes to get from place to place.

Hollywood would probably be your best option as it is centrally located and also has tons of great bars, restaurants and clubs you can walk to from your hotel at night.

Universal/Downtown is a quick subwayride away and Santa Monica can be easily reached by bus that runs 24/7 from the area

I am probably basing what its like to travel around in the UK so maybe leaving San Diago out is a good idea. I am not into rushing around and getting up early as this is a holiday i like stopping for drinks and food and soaking up the atomsphere so i think 5 days will be good amount of time. I will look into staying in Holly Wood. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel to stay in?

The Renaissance or Roosevelt are pretty nice hotels in Hollywood. If budget is a concern, look into the Celebrity,Orchid or Magic Castle hotel all which are getting g ood reviews on tripadvisor

Since you are not looking for a specific hotel, you can look at www.priceline.com - you may get a good price there. It is the site where you suggest a price for the star level in specific zone (e.g. Hollywood).

Budget is not really a problem i would prefer to have a nice base. But obviously within reason lol. My friend does drive but i%26#39;m not sure if she is going to be confident enough to drive out their. Could anyone give a bit of advise what the roads are really like? Also how much are we looking at to hire a car?

Thanks so much for all your help xx

You need to be 24 to rent a car. So I would recommend staying at the Hollywood Roosevelt (if budget is not a problem) and have that as your base for all sightseeing and nightlife - and it%26#39;s easy to use public transportation from there (except to Santa Monica). Consider splitting your stay - a few nights in Hollywood, a few nights in Santa Monica. In SAnta Monica, look into the Viceroy Hotel.

Is it possible to Spend a few days looking around santa monica and hollywood unversal studios and then split the trip up and spend a night or two in san diago i really want to vist their espcialy going to sea world.

xxEmma20xx,

unversal studios + hollywood = 1 day

Beverly Hills, Santa Monica = 1 day

san diego sea world + san diego downtown (gaslamp, bayfront) = 1 day
