SF Travel Itinerary..Suggestions

Apologies if slightly longwinded but some prefer detail:)

My BF and I plan to do 16 nights starting off in SF and ending in Vegas in July..

SF..(not sure exactly how many days yet...3 or four depending on whether u think my ideas are possible in timeframe!)..We will also spend last night of trip in SF to return home so hope to fit more in at that end...possibly shoppin on that day in Union Sq?

Looking at the GoldenGate Inn as an option, Chateau Tivoli or somewhere in Alamo Square...or perhaps stay somewhere more central to cover more ground and spend last night further out??

Heres what we plan to cover so far in no particular order and hope u can help with that..

Alcatraz Night Tour..maybe visit Nob Hill in morning

Chinatown

North Beach

GoldenGate Bridge (bike or walk!) Cable car to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf – check out pier 39 - walk to gherideli square, rent bikes from there.

Haight Ashbury District and Lower Haight

..Also lookin for more rock themed pubs and clubs to go to.

On leaving SF we will hire car and I hoped to visit Winchester Mystery House and Santa Cruz Boardwalk...before stayin a night in possibly Carmel?..planned to get up early next day and spend it sightseeing in carmel, Monterey before headin down to LA..or would u suggest someplace nicer more in between SF and LA?

This is basically goin to be a non stop trip and we will need a holiday at the end of it but we dont care!:)

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a nice trip. For some place more central to cover more ground in San Francisco, suggest looking for lodging in Union Square area. This is much eaiser to see the most in a short amount of time.

Your trip is doable in 3 days...suggest planning dinner one night in Chinatown; another night in North Beach.

Carmel or Monterey is fine interim stop. Do get an early start on the drive to Los Angeles if you plan to do the coastal route and see Big Sur.

Skip Winchester Mystery House. It would be better to take highway 1 along Pacific ocean on the road to Santa Cruz Boardwalk to enjoy a nice views and perhaps look at tide pools in Fitzgerald Marine Reserve (check the tide schedule)

I would prefer staying in Carmel over Monterrey. You can possible skip Monterrey, because the pier in Santa Cruz is more active. Do not forget 17 mile drive in Carmel.

Add Solvang on the way between SF and LA

I respectfully disagee with sparetire ... Monterey over Santa Cruz. And see the Aquarium in Monterey. Skip 17 mile drive unless you%26#39;re into seeing how the ';other half'; lives.

Definitely do the drive down Hiway 1. Stay in Cambria on the way. See Hearst Castle in San Simeon (book ahead). Santa Barbara is nice but IMO Solvang is kinda tacky. Wander over to the Santa Ynez valley and do some wine tasting rather than spending time in the fake-Danish village that is Solvang.

I missed that Capt-LLofL is from Glasgow, so perhaps artificial Solvang would be no interested at all.

Capt-LLofL, do not forget to check out Capitola beach near Santa Cruz
