Clean, comfortable, pleasant - but modestly priced?

I%26#39;ll be in San Diego for a convention at the convention center and want a clean, comfortable, and modestly-priced place to stay for several days. I don%26#39;t mind a walk to/from the conference.

Does anyone have information about Park Hotel Suites, 2245 K Street? Is the neighborhood OK? What about the hotel itself?

Or how about a guesthouse called UpfrontSanDiego? It sounds like someone rents rooms in his house.

I%26#39;d appreciate info on either of these alternatives - or another idea that will cost less than $150/night.

The neighborhood of 2245 K Street looks shade for me especially for walking trips. There is San Diego Trolley station in the front of the the convention center and as I noticed the trains run very often. Perhaps you can find cheaper and safer hotel along the trolley route http://www.sdmts.com/Trolley/Trolley.asp

I have never heard of either of the 2 places you have mentioned. You can get a room at La Pensione which is a decent hotel in our little Italy section. This is just north of downtown and you can take our lightrail(electric train) to the convention center.

the room will be under $100 per night.

A closer alternative would be the Holiday Inn Express Downtown. I had probs with the Holiday Inn web site today as strangely enough it was not yet set up to take 2009 reservations.

You might also check the Best Western Cabrillo Gardens.

Another idea would be to use the www.hotwire.com web site which doesn%26#39;t tell you the name of the hotel you are booking until you have paid BUT they tell you the star level and the neighborhood where it is found.

You can get a 4**** hotel in the gaslamp(the downtown neighborhood close to the convention center) for around $100 usually.

Can you tell us how you found these places? Do they have websites or do you have a link? I would NOT recommend the place on K street. Not only is it quite a walk it%26#39;s not a desirable area especially for several days. Riffsmom has a good recommendation in La Pensione. Porto Vista in Little Italy is also under $100.

It would also help to know when you%26#39;re coming here. That could affect the price as well.

Okay I just went to the website for Upfront San Diego. It%26#39;s in a nice area, Bankers Hill. Looks like it could be cozy. It would probably take you 30 or more minutes to walk to the Convention Center from there.

You might also want to look at the Occidental in the same general direction. It would be less of a walk.

A couple of websites that might be of help:

www.hotel-rates.com/us/california/san-diego/

Go to sandiegohotels.com

At Home Page click on Hotels. On the right side of screen click on CONVENTIONS (at Travel By Interest). There are several listed under $100 or there abouts.
