First time in San Diego

My daughter and her husband want to come to San Diego July 31 - Aug 3, to watch the Milwaukee Brewers play the Padres. Could anyone help with good hotels. I am thinking they are looking around $175 a night. Does that excist in San Diego. (They can afford a little more) They are coming because of the Brewers but are looking for one golf outing, a couple of good restaurants, and a sightseeing trip. Mid 30%26#39;s adventuresome couple. I would love to surprise them with a couple of good suggestions.

First time in San Diego

I%26#39;d have them stay in our lovely bayfront downtown.

That way they could walk to the ballpark and to lots of restaurants, music venues, etc. There is also a good hop on hop off tour bus made to look like an old fashioned trolley they might enjoy.

See:www.trolleytours.com

They could also take a harbor cruise/tour.

under $200 is low for downtown but it is possible that there will be some special rates closer to the summer.

I%26#39;d start looking after spring vacation.

Right now,for example, the Westin San Diego has rooms on their dates for $179+tax

I%26#39;d wait and then take a look at:

www.travelzoo.com

which lists all the best deals.

The area of downtown closest to the ballpark and themost restaurants is called the gaslamp but that is also usually expensive.

Here is its web site www.gaslamp.org

Check Hilton San Diego Bayfront near petco park. They just opened and perhaps would have deal even in summer

www.fatwallet.com might also have San Diego hotel specials.
