W. HW vs HW (nightlife and hotels) & our tentative plan

Hi all,

Thanks for all the informative posts about the above info, I%26#39;ve learned alot by reading some recent posts!

My husband and I are visiting LA for two nights (Mon %26amp; Tues) in January. We will have a car. We have tentatively planned to do Hollywood %26amp; Highland on Tues morning, then head to WB studios for a tour %26amp; tv show taping in the afternoon/evening. Then on Wednesday, we were thinking about heading to Santa Monica/Vencie to see the beaches, boardwalk, etc.

So...we are looking at the Celebrity or Orchid in Hollywood, OR the BW Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood. I like the thought of being right on the Sunset Strip (also it seems like it%26#39;s kind of in the middle of Santa Monica and WB studios), but I also like the thought of being so close (walking distance) to Hollywood %26amp; Highland. I think what will decide it for us is the ';nightlife';.

So, if we are pretty laid back, casual folks who like to catch happy hours, listen to music, have some beer and people watch, and are not into the club/dance scene, would West Hollywood be the better choice? It seems like from what I%26#39;ve read that we%26#39;d be able to walk to some bars from the BW Sunset Plaza, have some drinks, watch LA go by, and walk back to our hotel--does this sound right?

And, if West Hollywood is the better recommendation for us, what bars or restaurant/bars would you recommend-within walking distance of BW Sunset?

It also seems like the drive from W. Hollywood to Hollywood %26amp; Highland/WB Studios on Tuesday and the opposite direction to Santa Monica on Wednesday, wouldn%26#39;t be that bad??

Thanks so much!! Hope there%26#39;s not too much info to read thru :)

West Hollywood is the better spot for you, especially because that hotel is so much better! There are many bars within walking distance, just walk out your door and go where you like! There%26#39;s also a shuttle that takes you to Hollywood/Highland so it%26#39;s very easy to get there from Best Western.

Bars I like in WH are Bar Marmont and the Chateau Marmont. But your likes and needs fit more with WH nightlife.

Agreed - Hollywood draws a ';clubbing'; crowd while WeHo draws more of a ';bar/lounge'; crowd, so if you%26#39;re more into the laid back bar scene (rather than dance clubs), you%26#39;ll enjoy WeHo more. There are some neat and historic places on the Sunset Strip, like Whiskey-a-Go-Go, the Viper Room, and the Rainbow Bar %26amp; Grill, and there are also some more upscale places like the Chateau Marmont and Skybar at the Mondrian.

If you like Happy Hour, walking distance from the best Western sunset plaza is cabo cantina,a laid backmexican shack(across the street from the standard hotel) with 2 4 1 Happy Hour drinks from4-8pm daily with a lively crowd and pretty good food aswell

Thanks everyone! Sounds like West Hollywood is better for us. So it seems like BW Sunset is a pretty good hotel (based on our budget-under ~ $150-175) for that area?

Thanks for the recs on the bars-This may be a dumb question, but do places like Cabo Cantina, Whiskey a Go Go, Viper Room, etc have lists (or long lines) to get in? Or is it just the upscale places you mentioned like Skybar and Chateau Marmont that have lists/lines?

Thanks!

Cabo Cantinais just a bar,low key,no list. Whiskey e.t.c.you just need to buy tickets for the show. Skybar is not that popular,so you should not have to be on a list

Yes, BW Sunset Plaza is great for the money. And no worries about getting into any of the bars in WH, you won%26#39;t have a problem.
