Napa or Sonoma area hotels walkable to restaurants

Three of us are headed to wine country in a few weeks on a weekday, and would like to stay somewhere moderate (it%26#39;s only one night) and ideally in walking distance to a restaurant or two. Any suggestions? Driving from San Fran so would prefer within 2 or so hours of there. Is the Best Western at the Vines any good for walking to food?

Check out the El Dorado Hotel on the plaza in Sonoma, they have a great retaurant there called El Dorado Kitchen. It is across the street from the girl and the fig and walking distance to the Swiss Hotel and Cafe La Haye, a great little place for dinner. Have fun! :)

Yes, the town of Sonoma gives you lots of choices, and it is historic, having been built around the 11-acre plaza during the Mexican occupation of the early 1820%26#39;s. Some of the original adobe buildings survive, now housing restaurants and boutiques and a hotel or two. There are several excellent restaurants around the plaza or within walking distance.

You can be in Sonoma in 45 minutes from the Golden Gate bridge.

In addition to the El Dorado Hotel, mentioned by syrahgirl, there is the Sonoma Hotel, also historic, and where the restaurant, The Girl and the Fig, lives. This is across a side street from the El Dorado so is almost on the Plaza.

Two other hotels within walking distance of the Plaza are the Inn at Sonoma, at 1/2 block, (a Three Sisters Inn) and the Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn, about 2 blocks.

Sonoma is ideal for what you are looking for.

Enjoy your trip.

We stayed at the Sonoma Valley Inn, it%26#39;s a Best Western property and is nice. Let me know if you have any questions on this place! :)

There are lots of Inns/B%26amp;Bs within walking distance to historic Old Town Napa, where there are literally dozens and dozens of restaurants- many Zagat rated.

There are also a few larger places as well within walking distance-- does size (# of rooms) matter?

There are also a few more affordable spots that are about 2-5 miles from Old Town-- so if saving 10-15 a night is critical, you may want to consider these as well.

The Inn at the Vines is one of the affordable spots we just mentioned-- while it is across a busy highway/street from KFC, McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc-- it%26#39;s about 2 mi to the Old Town area.

Please let us know what%26#39;s important to you, and we%26#39;ll be happy to try and help! :)

I noticed that many hotels are pet friendy. Unfortunately, I am alleric to dogs/cats. Will I have any problems staying at a pet friendly hotel in Sonoma?

You will have to check with the hotels to see if they are pet friendly. I rather doubt that El Dorado and Inn at Sonoma would be, but you never know, I guess. When I think of ';pet friendly'; I think more of motor lodges or motels than the type of hotel we are talking about. But, again, who knows these days.

We enjoyed the River Terrace Inn in Napa. They have their own restaurant and are also in walking distance of Cuvee - which we got a free glass of wine coupon for upon check in.

My hubby %26amp; I are staying at the Inn at the Vines tonight as I write this. We had a terrible experience with another place this afternoon and got a phone book and called here. They had a room just $50 more than we paid for the most aweful place in the Napa Valley. The Inn at the Vines is located on a busy street with chain restaurants across the street. We ate tonight at Cole%26#39;s Chop House which is about 5 minutes from hotel by car and it was fabulous. Service, food and ambience were awesome. If you valet park they comp your parking. We also ate outside on the patio. Just have a good time with your friends and wherever you stay you will have fun!! I sure am.

Thanks for your help all! We are going with the BW in Sonoma. Just FYI, if you google ';Best Western Coupon'; a lot of websites have codes you can use that are even better deals than AAA. I found one on retailmenot.com and saved about $50! Looking forward to drinking some wine!

Anyone recommend a hotel in Napa for one night in January (Saturday/Sunday) up to $150 a night?

It would be great if the hotel is located in a quiet area but somewhat close to restaurants and cafes.

Thanks.
