Gaslamp Plaza Suites or The Sofia Hotel?

I am trying to find a decent hotel within walking distance to all the attractionns, dinning, night life, and shopping. I am looking at places around $100 a night. These two seem to be the best bet. Any comments?

Gaslamp Plaza Suites or The Sofia Hotel?

The Sofia is more up-to-date and nicer inside and is about 2-3 blocks from the gaslamp.

Gaslamp Plaza seems dated and deppressing to me.

Gaslamp Plaza Suites or The Sofia Hotel?

I didn%26#39;t realize they were both so inexpensive.

When are you coming?

Anyway, the Sofia is an old hotel that has been redone and modernized. The Gaslamp Plaza may have larger rooms and I believe includes breakfast. Both are in walking distance to everything but the GPlaza is right in the middle of the gaslamp district so perhaps a little less walking.

Your price range is on the low side for the area but

you may be able to find a low price on a 4****hotel by looking at a site like :www.hotwire.com

This site does NOT tell you the hotel until after you%26#39;ve booked BUT it DOES tell you the location and star level soooo if you look at what it has available in its gaslamp location ,you may do better.

I was hoping to come to SD for an extended weekend, Jan15-18. My friend and I are in out 20%26#39;s and we would like to be around the nightlife, good shopping, dinning. We would like to be within walking distance of everything and would like to be around $100 per night. Is the Gaslamp or Downtown better? is it far from the water? I have used hotwire before but i find it risky since its random and you dont always ghet what you want i find. Any ideas in term of what area is best and what to do there for the short trip?

Th gaslamp is a small area of downtown.

On this web site they have a map.

www.gaslamp.com

Also on the discount web site

www.hotwire.com

there is a gaslamp area and you can be sure that the hotels you pick there will be convenient to everything.

$100 per night is low for here so you need to find a good deal.

The Hampton Inn Downtown has free daily hot breakfast(till 10am) and is $129/night for your dates of stay. This hotel is right by a trolley station that will take you to the Gaslamp area. This hotel does have some freight-train noise. www.hamptoninn.com

The Holiday Inn express on 7th Ave. in downtown might be under $100 although the guest rooms are small here. www.hiexpress.com

The Bristol hotel is near the Sofia hotel and is another hotel that has decent rates for downtown.

The Sophia is good, so is the Horton Grand Hotel, the Bristol and La Pensione.
