Hollywood to Disneyland Resort Transport Query??

Our family (2 adults %26amp; 3 children) will be in LA in April. We will spend 4 nights in Hollywood district near H%26#39;wood Blvd and then 4 nights in a Disneyland Resort Hotel. What is the best/cheapest way to travel from Hollywood Blvd to Disneyland Resort? We won%26#39;t have a car (or a need to rent one) as we will spend all of our remaining time at D%26#39;land. I will be grateful for anyone%26#39;s suggestions. Thanks very much.

Hollywood to Disneyland Resort Transport Query??

What will you do at Disneyland for 4 days? It%26#39;s not nearly as big as Disneyworld in Florida. You really don%26#39;t need more than 2 days there. And if you plan to go out in the evenings etc to anywhere outside of Anaheim (where there isn%26#39;t much to do), you will definitely need a car. Public transportation around Orange County is somewhat of a joke still and you wouldn%26#39;t want to be doing it with 3 kids in tow.

In addition, you should strongly consider renting a car for your stay in Hollywood. Are you ok taking all 5 of you around on buses in LA? Hollywood itself is just a few touristy blocks that can be seen in 1-2 hrs. And from there, you will need to take at least one, but often two buses to get to any other parts of LA since the city is so spread out. Are you planning to see the beach neighborhoods? They%26#39;re about 1 hr and 2 buses away, one way. It%26#39;s definitely not going to feel like a vacation to be taking your family around all parts of LA on long bus rides. Just something to consider.

Your only options of getting to Disneyland are to go with a tour company, to get a van cab (over $100), to get back to LAX ($50 cab) and then take the Disneyland shuttle bus (around $20 per person), or to use a combination of metro, bus and cab (about 2 hours). As you can see, renting a car would be both much cheaper and much more convenient.

Hollywood to Disneyland Resort Transport Query??

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. We are coming from Australia, so first of all the idea of driving on the opposite side of the road is not that appealing, let alone driving in LA. Our home city of Cairns is only small (150 000 pop) compared to LA. I really think that my husband and I would end up doing something drastic if we had to drive anywhere.

Our youngest child is only 4 yrs, so we want to enjoy D%26#39;land without feeling like we%26#39;re in a rush to try and see everything. So, I think we%26#39;ll be plenty entertained for 4 days.

I%26#39;ve since found a post which mentions a company called Lux Bus America, which can do one way Hollywood to Anaheim for $25. I was interested to see what locals could suggest before booking anything.

Basically, when a family of five is travelling from Australia to D%26#39;land, $100 for a transfer to the Resort is no big deal, it%26#39;s probably the last of our concerns financially.

We have booked a Hop-on-Hop-off tour which is valid for 48 hours around the LA, Hollywood, Bev Hills area so that ought to keep us busy, including a day a Universal Studios, and a trip to the American Girl store!!

I appreciate you taking the time to provide suggestions and to reply to my post. Thanks very much.

Some L.A.People do not understand the concept of not having a car in L.A.

You have to understand though that L.A.is fairly large and for a family of 5 it would deffinatly be more convinient to rent a car. Our streets are big and it%26#39;s really not to hard to navigate around

That said, dont let yourself be discouraged visiting Los Angeles without a car. There are plenty of options to get around(including the Hop on and Off Bus).

Even if you dont want to be rushed at Disneyland, i think 3 days will give you ample of time to visit all of the attractions plenty of times. Maybe use the extra day and take a daytrip, you could get on the train(amtrak) to Santa Barbara for example which i am sure your familie would love

I understand your concerns. Driving in LA is definitely easy as it%26#39;s a car city and streets are large, everything is marked clearly, etc. However, if you really don%26#39;t want to, it%26#39;s doable without a car - just not very convenient for 5 people, including 3 children to travel together. You%26#39;ll be fine as long as you keep that in mind.

I personally don%26#39;t think the Hop on Hop off tour is a good deal at all since they take you around areas that are easily accessible by one bus or one metro stop. Hollywood, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills are all near each other. One public bus #217 takes you to Melrose Ave shopping, The Grove/American Girl Store, and LACMA/LaBrea Tarpits/Automotive Museum within 10-15 mins. A 25 cent Dash bus takes you to West Hollywood shopping etc within 15 mins and from there you can take a 10 min bus to Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive area too. Also, a bus down Sunset, takes you along Sunset Blvd including Sunset Strip, through Brentwood, and all the way to the beach. Universal Studios is only 1 metro strop from Hollywood. Just consider this before paying all that money for the tour for 5 people, unless money is of no object.

If it%26#39;s costing you $25 per person, i.e. $125 total for that Lux Shuttle, it%26#39;s probably easier and cheaper to take a cab (plenty of van cabs available).

Without a car and with 5 people in a room, you should book ahead at Orchid Suites if you want something conveniently located in Hollywood and at a low rate of under $150 for a suite. Most hotels will require you to get two rooms or a suite for 5 people. Let us know if you need more help looking for hotels. Btw, Beverly Hilton, if you can afford it, has a free car service for anywhere within 3 miles from the hotel, which is a great service.

We are also from Australia and intending on visiting Disneyland for a night from Beverly Hilton in LA. What form of transport did you end up using? We are a family of 4 and don%26#39;t want to use public transport or drive.

Your only options are:

hire a car

take public transit: buses/metro rail/rail

Lux Bus (door-to-door, luxury coach service):

I%26#39;m from Melbourne and wasn%26#39;t comfortable driving over there either. We stayed in West Hollywood and just organised a bus from our hotel.

I think it was around $20 to Disneyland - was annoying having to stop at all of the different hotels picking people up along the way but for $20, really can%26#39;t complain.

I would recommend Lux Bus, rental car or good old public transit as well...a taxi is way much from Hollywood or L.A to Anaheim. Public transportation is the cheapest way, but definitely not the best way.

we did bus - train - subway from our hotel in Anaheim up to Hollywood. Was very easy and a bargain of a price. How old are your children - might not be ideal with say a prams/buggies/strollers etc or two plus luggage thats all but it is so easy to do. Check out my previous posts by clicking on my name - information on how/what/where and why are on my anaheim trip report from the 17 December.

hope this helps
