Headed for wine country from Yosemite for 2-3 nights in October. What location would be a good base to see wine country: Napa or Sedona....or other?
We plan to see Salsalito and Muir Woods from wine country too.
Is getting to Redwood forest too far to include one day?
What are your suggested highlights?
Places to stay? We typically choose 3 star hotels. B%26amp;B is ok if we have our own bathroom.
Thanks for your help!
Central base in Wine country - Napa or Sedona?
You know, Sedona, AZ actually DOES have wineries--but I%26#39;m assuming you meant to say ';Sonoma';! You can stay in either Napa town or Sonoma town and still easily visit the ';other valley';. The 2 towns are less than 30 min%26#39;s apart. I%26#39;d suggest an even better choice--stay in the town of Healdsburg in northern Sonoma County and within an hour you can visit the Sonoma Valley as well as the awesome redwoods in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve near Guerneville--plus you will be within a very short drive of a large number of world-class wineries in the Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. I would leave Muir Woods and Sausalito for another trip when you have more time. In Healdsburg, Hotel Healdsburg would be an excellent choice. There are also numerous B%26amp;B inns to choose from and virtually every room will have its own private bath. Go to the Healdsburg Forum and link to the lodging reviews. There is a separate category for inns.
Central base in Wine country - Napa or Sedona?
lol.... yes, Napa or Sonoma! I%26#39;ll blame that on a late night posting after a glass of wine - CA of course!
Thanks!
Thanks - I had heard that Healdsburg was a nice town to visit, and now it sounds like a good base camp.
I like Healdsburg too! Check out Madronna Manor. Also there%26#39;s a Best Western Dry Creek Inn that has new ';Tuscan'; rooms which have spa tubs, fireplaces and look out onto a lovely courtyard. Not 3* but quite nice.
Hi, we stayed at the Inn @ the Plaza a couple of weeks ago and loved our stay there, it is a small Inn directly on the square, walking distance to amazing restaurants such as Cyrus. There are several tasting rooms on the plaza, quaint boutiques and Oakville Grocery, a gourmet grocery store. We have very personable service at the Inn @ the Plaza, our concierge gave us complimentary tasting passes, there was a wine and cheese reception and very good breakfast in the morning with hot, cooked items. Our room had a clawfoot tub, king bed, balcony and fireplace and free wireless internet. Let me know if you have any questions on this property, I have a review with photos of our time there.
I hope you have a wonderful time in the wine country! Don%26#39;t miss Ferrari-Carano in the Dry Creek area if you go to Healdsburg. Gary Farell is also wonderful for their Pinot Noir. :)
