Dressing up for Dinner?

Hi - Visiting SF 18th April for 6 nights whilst OH at Conference, thanks for previous help - re me occupying myself when he is working - one last question (hopefully.) Sorry if it seems a bit of a silly one.

OH has now remembered that he and I are being taken out to dinner by CEO of a large company, he dosent know where to, wether its to have serious chat (i.e. suss me out too) or just to socialise, in fact all he could tell me was - ';he%26#39;s kind of like the elder statesman type, quietish, really nice decent chap, not pretentious, usually wears a suit, sometimes takes his tie off'; -roll of eyes from me, tormented look from OH and suggestion that I should dress up, or maybe not!!

SO - assuming we wont be going to a sports bar, or the poshest place in town, (who knows?)

whats the usual dress code for dinner, as I hadnt intended to bring ';dressy'; clothes (dont own many!) - smart pants/trousers or the little black number perhaps? I can only be myself but I want to feel comfortable doing it!

Thanks

Dooley

Dressing up for Dinner?

Slacks and a sports coat with open collared long sleeve shirt would be appropriate in most places in San Francisco. The city is cool in the evening so sport coat is useful with either slacks or jeans.

Dressing up for Dinner?

Ricardo I think it%26#39;s the wife asking sooooo

you can wear smart pants with a nice top anywhere.

IF you feel like wearing a dress then you can but it%26#39;s not necessary. DO wear something on your shoulders because evenings are cool i.e. sweater, jacket, pashmina whatever looks best with your outfit.

Ooops----LOL Thanks you rescued me again!!!!

Will CEO%26#39;s wife be attending as well? If you have any way of contacting her via email in advance you might be able to figure things out a bit more.

Otherwise, as riffsmom says, nice slacks will be fine. Perhaps a bit dressier top with nice jewelry too. And, yes, wear a jacket or something as it%26#39;s always cool here in the evenings.

I would go with the little black number! San Francisco is a great place to dress up a bit for dinner. I hope you have a great time and let us know how it goes! :)

Not to worry. Smart pants and jacket or blazer. You don%26#39;t need ';a little black dress';.

When I go into the city for theatre and dinner, I wear the above.

Thanks everyone

Know just what to take now, and will make sure OH brings a casual jacket/trousers too!

Dooley1 - Another vote for the little black number. You can go anywhere from more casual to very dressy places in the classic San Francisco look. Heels are great, but do wear sensible shoes if you are not used to walking on hills, and have a jacket. Have fun.

Sorry, I disagree. If I am traveling overseas I pack light. While it may be fun to dress up in a ';little black';, if it is only for one night and I would look just fine in other clothes I had brought I would not do it.

I cringe when I see my fellow travelers at airports with immense, and I do mean immense, suitcases, and not just one of them, but several, for two or three people.

I wonder how they get around with all that luggage %26lt;smile%26gt;

Oh, well, with the new charges for luggage maybe they will have to reconsider.

.......Ditto...the little black number
