Hi,
We are looking at LMU, and am terrified of driving in LA! WOuld you suggest staying at the Radisson or the Marriott in Culver City...we are most interested in the walking possibilities for shopping, eating, etc. Thanks for the recommendations!
Radisson or Marriott??
I%26#39;d recommend the Custom House. It%26#39;s the closest to the campus. (You could walk to it if you don%26#39;t mind an .8 of a mile walk). Here%26#39;s a map from the hotel (marked %26#39;A%26#39;) to the campus (marked %26#39;B%26#39;) and also to a nearby shopping center (marked %26#39;C%26#39;):

The area around the hotel has several restaurants and some light shopping. You can take a bus on Lincoln Bl northbound to the above-mentioned Marina Villa Shopping Center (a few minutes) or drive there if you have a car.
Here%26#39;s the website for the mall:

Note: there are no large department stores there. If you%26#39;re looking for %26#39;bigger stores%26#39;, you%26#39;ll need to go elsewhere. BTW, there is also a Marriott Hotel adjacent to the Mall:
marriott.com/hotels/…
There are also lots of restaurants in the shopping center as well as in Marina del Rey proper (to the west of Lincoln Blvd, adjacent to the inland waterways (shown in blue on the map).
The Marriott and Radisson that you mentioned aren%26#39;t in the center of Culver City; there in an area called %26#39;Fox Hills%26#39; -- on the edge of the city. The two properties are adjacent to the 405 freeway and a large indoor mall (Westfield Culver City Mall) which is, presently, partially under construction.
If it were me, I%26#39;d stay at the Custom House -- nice, residential neighborhood, adjacent to the campus.

Thank you!!
The Custom Hotel is kind of avant garde - stuffed sheep in the lobby, smallish rooms, dark hallways. Nice pool area though, and good rates.
The Inn at Playa del Rey is also very close to LMU, and it%26#39;s a really beautiful place. Easy drive to the airport, walking distance to the beach, free bikes, free breakfast and free parking. There are a bunch of good restaurants to walk to, too.
