I was hoping that I might get some insight from a few pros here. 6 of us girls (early 30%26#39;s) are taking a trip to the San Diego area in July. We were hoping to hit up Temecula for a day of wine tasting, but I am not sure where to start with hotels. Should we try to make it a day trip from San Diego and find a limo or car service? Or is there a hotel that you%26#39;d all recommend near a good restaurant, bar, etc? We will have a car, but I%26#39;d rather not have anyone drive it after doing a day of wine tasting.
Help...
thanks a lot!
Girls trip- where to stay?
There is a bus tour from temecula that would come pick you up in San Diego. I think it is called a gogrape.com
There is also a horseback trail riding business that takes people on a hour long ride through the vineyards. A great way to see the back country of Temecula

Girls trip- where to stay?
Southcoast Winery on Rancho California Rd has suites you can stay in. Free wine tasting included.
There%26#39;s also a Doubletree right off the freeway in Temecula.
Cafe Champagne in the Thornton Winery is really good.
Our ';girl%26#39;s weekends'; in Temecula always include a massage and facial at Glen Ivy Hot Springs and Day Spa nearby! Mud baths and Mineral Baths, too!
Hi - I live in the wine country in Temecula, behind Thorton Winery. As far as hotels, there%26#39;s every range of them here. The highest price would be the South Coast Winery. They have cottages with an on-site restaurant, massage, etc. Really depends on your budget. You can spend $700-900 a day pp at South Coast if you are not careful. We have a few chains (Hampton Inn, Quality Inn, Holiday Inn Express), but they are all in town. Unfortunately, those who run our city put all of those types of hotels on the opposite side of the freeway from the main restaurant row at the mall. Not walking distance from the row to the hotels. Not much in the way of night life here. Only the Stampede which is heavily frequented by the Marines from Pendelton or Pechanga Casino. There%26#39;s a couple of other Bed/Breakfasts in the wine country, but for weekends, most, if not all including South Coast, require a 2 night stay. Embassy Suites is located immediately off of the freeway at Rancho California Road. It has an on-site restaurant, with a Marie Callendars in the parking lot and across the street within walking distance are Stewart Andersons, Chilli%26#39;s, Texas Loosey%26#39;s, a very good local Italian restaurant named Scarcellas, and a good Mexican place we call %26#39;Harrys%26#39;. There is a movie theater in that plaza as well. Another thought may be staying at the Temecula Inn located at the Temecula Golf course. Their place is beautiful and quiet and remote from the busy town center. The restaurant at the golf course is excellent and they have a wonderful Sunday brunch. Just be careful when walking outside at night, stay on paths and out of the bushes. There are snakes and cougars in the area. Best hint I could give you is to book as early as possible. Places fill up fast here on weekends in the summer, especially if there is an event planned. We have the 4th of July firework event and on July 11, we have a free ';Aglow in the Dark'; event. This is where they light up the hot air balloons in the park with music and an outdoor movie (Surf%26#39;s Up). Both are at the local sports park. Its not really an event for visitors, but the traffic can snarl up the streets in and out of the wine country. If you need any more info, let me know. Be glad to help.
If you go on the Temecula Convention %26amp; Visitors Bureau website you can look up hotels including their rates and availability. Many hotels require a two-night minimum on the weekends, but not all of them. Their website is www.temeculacvb.com.
For what you are looking to do, make it a day trip. Cbeck the site linked below for the Grapeline, they will shuttle you between the wineries. Staying in Temecula is more sedate than your group is probably looking for. Do the winery tour and then head back to the nightlife of SD.
If you get a chance drive north of San Diego just 35 minutes to Temecula Wine Country Area. This would make a great day trip for you. There are some awesome wineries to visit, Wilson Creek Winery.com %26amp; South Coast Winery.com. You can stay at S.C. Winery they have beautiful villas, day spa %26amp; restaurant. You can also go horseback riding. It is called Wine Country Trails by Horseback.com. It is a 2 hour guided tour by horseback through the vineyards, enjoy riding and wine tasting for a day of activities.
Highly recommended.
