We are flying into LAX in August 2009. Want to do most of our sightseeing in the Los Angeles area.
We have two girls who will be 17 and 12 at the time of the trip and they fight a lot, so we are looking for a suite type of accomodation. I noticed that the rates in the Burbank area are a little cheaper. Will be staying for 10 nights. Also, a friend recommended Burbank.
Would this be a good choice? Also, should we rent a car? I heard it%26#39;s crazy driving around LA. We live near NYC and drive in a lot and hate it, but we do it. Is LA the same or worse?
Thanks!
Considering staying in Burbank for an LA visit
LA is a car city and it%26#39;s very easy to get around by car. The last thing you want with fighting teenagers is dealing with the buses, which take twice as long to get from A to B.
Burbank is not LA. Consider splitting your stay in two, 5 nights Hollywood/West Hollywood and 5 nights Santa Monica. There are many all suite hotels to choose from. Look into Le Parc Suites, Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity, Cal Mar Suites, Embassy Apartment Hotel...
Considering staying in Burbank for an LA visit
Thank you so much. I will look into all of those places and we will definitely consider renting a car. The way my girls fights we actually get thrown off of the bus!
Yogachik has given you excellent suggestions.
I have stayed in Burbank (note: it was for a super fast trip and there really is not a lot to do in Burbank.). The places Yogachik has recommended are far superior than having your girls whine for 10 days about the poor choice of location.
New York is more compact. Los Angeles is very large (40 plus miles). In fact, if Disneyland and Anaheim are part of the trip, people tend to split their time between 2 hotels.
One for the Disneyland portion; and the next for the rest of the trip and pick a place in Hollywood or West LA area. This helps to avoid work traffic which is intense.
One way to help with the tension piece, is have everyone in the family write down the top 5 things they want to do while in LA. Then you can decide where these are located and choose lodging closest to what you want to do while in LA.
I doubt that the few attractions close to Burbank - the airport, Western Museum, Zoo, Griffith Park and Observatory- will fill all 10 days. As such, you want to pick a place where you will spend the most time.
Thank you for your reply. I don%26#39;t think that we are even go to go to Disney. We have been to Disneyworld so many times. We tend to alway vacation in Florida, that%26#39;s why we decided to do something different.
My daughters think that we are going to run into all kinds of stars on our trip, so we really haven%26#39;t discussed exactly what we are going to do yet. I know my older daughter will want to shop!
Again, thank you!
