we are staying at the HOJO in March and need to be in Hollywood for a tour by 2pm on the Friday. What is the easiest way for a family of 3 to get into and back from hollywood from the HOJO? ( we are not too keen on public transport).
Howard Johnson to LA
Is this a coach tour? If so, and the tour is not booked and paid for, the easiest thing to do would be to book a tour through Grayline Coach Anaheim instead. They will pick you up from your hotel.

Other than that the easiest thing to do would be to use a rental car and drive. Check into hertz.com because there just happens to be a special until the end of March that will give you one weekend day FREE with NO minumum keep. For a Friday, make sure you check the hours of the Hertz Location in Anaheim. Saturday hours may be shorter than Friday hours, which means you will need to reserve pick up for the morning hours so you can return at the same time. You can arrange to be picked up from your hotel and returned there. Since you are from out of the country, you will need pay for insurance coverage. You may also be charged a small amount for taxes and fees. (My recent reservation quote for a Friday using this promo was $2.12 for a compact car without insurance.)

Redland%26#39;s offers great advice.
The other option is the ';dreaded'; public transport one:
1. Taxi to Fullerton (rail) Station.
2. Amtrak (amtrak.com) or Metrolink (Metrolinktrains.com) train to L.A.%26#39;s Union (rail) station.
3. Transfer to the red line metro rail to the Universal City station.
4. Exit the station, cross the road and wait at the tram stop for the free tram ';up the hill'; to the studios.
Cost of this option is as follows:
Return Taxi ($10) + Return Train (between $14.75 and $45, depending on which train company you select and the day of the week traveled) + Return Metro rail ($7.50).
Total cost is between $32.25 and $62.50
Transfer time:
Taxi (10 minutes) + train (40 minutes) + metro rail (30 minutes) = 80 minutes (+ %26#39;wait time%26#39; between conveyances).
A hire car will be less expensive, more direct and quicker.
Check car hire quotes at Yescarhire.com. I looked for you and a small car for the day is 18 GBP (= $27 US) including insurance. Add to that, the cost of parking in Hollywood (between $2 and $10 at the Hollywood %26amp; Highland Mall, depending on the number of hours you park and whether you make a purchase in the mall. The purchase can be as little as a cup of coffee). Also, add the cost of petrol which will be less than $10. So, a total of between $39 and $47 and the freedom to explore other areas of Los Angeles and to come and go as you please.
You guys are great!!!Thanks so much!
