Need help please with a hotel

Hi,

We are arriving on Amtrak from LAX very late at night.

Need 2 nights accommdation for 28th March. There is 5 of us and no car. Will need public transport.

29th we will go to the zoo and in the afternoon would like to have a look around San Diego - maybe a trolley tour or harbor tour? Need restaurants close by for dinner - love Seafood. Maybe a dinner cruise?

30th we will go to Seaworld, leave there 4pm, back to hotel to pick up luggage and then back to train station for either 5:27pm or 6:27pm train back to LAX.

Where are some hotels for under $200 a night if we have to get 2 rooms or $350 if we all fit into the 1 room. Looking for 2 doubles %26amp; 1 rollaway or sofa, that will fit our needs?

Thanks

The hotels closest to the railway station do not have rooms for 5 people. The San Diego Westin(NOT The one at Horton Plaza)and the Sofia Hotel might be possibilities for you.

I am having trouble with the Holiday Inn web site so maybe they are not set up for 2009 yet which is just plain silly but I couldn%26#39;t check on the Holiday Inn San Diego ON THE BAY or the Holiday Inn Express. The Hi Express is further from the train station but often cheaper.

How late is ';very late at night';?

Are you 5 adults or are there some children in the group?

The Sofia and Bristol hotels are good places to investigate and are located in downtown near lots of publictransportation.

The new 1,500 room Hilton Bayfront may have good rates for your dates. This hilton is on the harbor in downtown and near public transportation.

Hi,

We are 5 adults, 2 couples and 1.

We will arrive approx 11:30pm

Hi,

Has anyone got any suggestions? I have been doing so much research on here an getting more confused.

Have been looking at the following but have no idea if they are suitable for the location?

Marriott San Diego Hotel and Marina

The Courtyards but not sure which one, both have good prices

Comfort Inn - but again dont know which one would be better for location

I originally gave you hotel suggestions near the train station as you are getting in so late.

The Marriott Marina is FAB but overlooking SD Bay but is usually QUITE expensive. If you can get it book it!

You will probably have to take a short taxi from the station unless you want to deal with a tram ride at that hour. The tram(electric train that we call the trolley) leaves right next to the train station and goes to the hotel.

Courtyard downtown is OK too.

Ok I have no idea where the train station is, I was just looking at rooms that would accommodate 5 people without going to 2 rooms. Once we got to 2 rooms the price gets too much at most places

The Westin is out - too expensive

Holiday Inn on the Bay - same again too expensive

The Sofia - too expensive

Which ones out of the below would be better for us?

Holiday Inn Bayside will take 5 people in a room and includes breakfast for $416

Marriott San Diego Hotel and Marina $462.84 - no breakfast

Comfort Inn Airport At Old Town x 2 rooms total cost $570.20 - no breakfast

Best Western Bayside Inn x 2 rooms $643.80 includes breakfast

Embassy Suites San Diego Bay $$695.78 includes breakfast

Thanks for all your help

Here is a link to Google maps

http://maps.google.com/

IF the map of downtown does not come up then put in ;

San Diego AMtrak Station and you will see a map.

You can then click on -search nearby- and put in hotels

Then you will see where everything is located.

Either the Marriott Marina OR the Embassy Suites downtown(they are across the street from one another) would be great locations BUT they are a little ways from the train station which would require EITHER a short taxi OR a transfer to our lightrail tram. I wouldn%26#39;t bother with that at 11:30 at night. Both the hotels I mentioned are nice places. The Sofia would be walking distance BUT would require 2 rooms and probably the same at the Westin. It is quite funny because for 1 room they are usually much cheaper than the Marriott or Embassy Suites.

Yes the google map worked, there%26#39;s not much difference between the 2 hotels and that time of night a taxi would be safer and wouldn%26#39;t cost much at all would it? How hard will it be to get a taxi? Or will we need to pre book one?

I think for the price we will stick with the Marriott. I notice there is a westfield close by, is that walking distance?

Becks:

Noticed that you are staying at the Marriott and no breakfast is included. I know from my personal experience that hotel breakfasts often provide more than you need and charge for the experience.

There is a simple spot for breakfast outside the hotel that may help limit your expenses. It is across Harbor Drive and is called the Brickyard. (675 West G St). You can get coffee, juices, fruit, cereals, bakery goods, egg and cheese sandwiches. Much cheaper than the hotel.

Yes the mall is in walking distance. All of downtown is easily walkable even from the train station BUT not late at night with luggage.

I am not sure if taxis wait at the train station at that hour. We are kind of an early city.

tootallsd lives downtown and he may know.

If not I%26#39;d ask your hotel.
