San Fran - Vegas - Heavenly

Iam travelling to San Fran Feb 28th. Hope to spend at least 5 days in the area then onto Vegas for 3 days and finally a few days skiing in Heavenly before returning to San Fran and then flying home March 15th. Wondering whether to hire a car and drive down the coast to LA and then onto Vegas. Better perhaps to drive to Carmel/Monterey and then turn back to SF? Could fly to Vegas from San Fran and then onto Reno for a few days skiing at Heavenly. Any suggestions? What options are there in getting from San Fran to Lake Tahoe. Fly to Reno or maybe take a bus? Thanks for any help you can give. Derek

Fastest way if you only have 8 days total:

spend 5 days in SF, fly from SF to Vegas, spend 3 days there and fly to Reno, take the shuttle to South Lake Tahoe.

The travel options for Heavenly from San Francisco are fly to Reno/shuttle to Heavenly; drive to Heavenly Valley;take the train/bus www.amtrak.com.

If you want to see the coastal road then you could drive to LA with an overnight stop in Cambria. In LA, then you could drop off your car(5 airports in LA metro to Las Vegas.(www.southwest.com,www.jetblue.com) then fly to Las Vegas;then fly to Reno for Heavenly.
