Hi there. Looking for a restaurant in SF that might have singers, either entertainers or singing waiters. Used to be a great Italian place down in Sunnyvale that had a few singers who entertained with Italian arias and popular numbers during dinner, but I believe it has closed. It was a fav place of my Mom%26#39;s and now we are looking for a similar place for her 80th birthday celebration. Any input would be soooo appreciated.
Also, Plan B is a SF restaurant with wonderful views and, here%26#39;s the clincher, American cuisine. Looked at view restaurants and so many are Asian. Considering McCormick and Kuleto in Ghiradelli...
Thanks!
Singing waiters...?Max%26#39;s Opera Cafe is the only place with singing waiters that comes to mind. I haven%26#39;t been there in years, though.
Singing waiters...?You are probably thinking of Nicolinos if you are talking about Sunnyvale; if so, it is still open. It does not have singing waiters, but it still does on some nights of the week Italian arias and popular numbers during dinner.

We have visited about six months ago and its still one of those special night type out places...complete with flaming deserts.
Happy Birthday to your mom.

I don%26#39;t think that Max%26#39;s Opera Cafe has singing waiters anymore.
This is a stretch, but there is a young, handsome Italian singer (tenor), Pasquale Esposito, that is based in San Jose and often performs in the San Jose and Palo Alto area. He sings a variety of Italian and Italian-American songs. He would be fun for your mom to see if she likes that type of music. My Italian mother-in-law is 76 and she absolutely adores his concerts. If you see him, make sure it is a concert where he does the Italian classics rather than contemporary music.
I am sure that someone else will recommend some American cuisine in SF with wonderful views. In Sausalito, there is a restaurant, Spinnaker, that is American seafood. Many older folks enjoy this restaurant.
Have fun.
Dear mbtrip -
After my last post, I thought I would check out what Pasquale is up to. On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14th and 15th he is performing at the Montgomery Theater in San Jose (408-528-6308). On January 25th from 7-10 pm, he is singing at an Italian restaurant in San Mateo called Acqua Pazza (650-375-0903). I have not eaten at this restaurant, but the online reviews looked pretty good. Pasquale is a good singer, and would be fun to hear at dinner.
Now I am tempted to take my mother-in-law there on January 25th...she would have a blast.
Happy birthday to your mother!
Thanks for the input, everyone. (Thanks for naming Nicolino%26#39;s... I couldn%26#39;t remember the name and it was driving me crazy!)
Good info on the Italian singer who does gigs, but we%26#39;re trying to keep to SF.
Has anyone been to McCormick and Kuleto%26#39;s lately? I was last there about three years ago and I remember it was very pretty and festive.
I%26#39;m not a fan of McCormick and Kuleto%26#39;s. Unfortunately for so many places with nice views, the food is underwelming and overpriced at best.
The Cliff House has two restaurants, one by George Morrone. I had lunch at the more informal one last weekend and it was pretty good. The fancier one (Morrone%26#39;s) unfortunately doesn%26#39;t get very good reviews although most people who reviewed it were there for brunch. The downside to this location is that the views are visible only during the day.
The Epic Roasthouse on the Embarcadero is a possibility although it%26#39;s quite expensive (the price of the view) and gets very inconsistent reviews.
Hi, Ramblin%26#39; Sal: Yep, I looked at Epic Roasthouse on the web and it does look neat. I bet even at night it is lovely with the view of the Bay Bridge lit up. However, you are right..., the prices would make a person cry. This will be a birthday celebration with about fifteen people, including teenagers and little kids. Can%26#39;t see paying $75 per person. Even Top of the Mark has a prix fixe dinner for $59, even on weekends! Wow. Thanks for the input!
Gosh with teenagers and little kids you probably are looking for something nice but not fancy. Try Perry%26#39;s on the Embarcadero or even Pier 23.
THANKS for the lead on Perry%26#39;s at the Embarcadero. Looks like it might just fit the bill. I looked at several reviews and it mentions that the outdoor tables have a view, but doesn%26#39;t mention it with regard to indoor tables. Has anyone been there? Any advice would be appreciated. (Thanks, Ramblin Sal!)
A few doors down from Perry%26#39;s in Chaya Brasserie.

Bigger windows than Perry%26#39;s, to take in the view. And unlike Perry%26#39;s blue and white checked table cloths, they have white linen, which may lend itself to a more upscale feel.
They also have jazz trios on weeknights.
Other non-view alternatives that won%26#39;t break the bank for a large group, but will still be acceptibly classy:
Le Charm:

Excellent French fare with a price fixe menu that includes dessert. With a large group, you will most likely be seated in the heated patio.
LuLu:

They have really large tables that easily seat groups. And they are a San Francisco standard.
