Hi, we%26#39;ll be spending 9 days in SF in mid February and are keen bird watchers, hikers, and generally wildlife lovers. We don%26#39;t plan to rent a car (we always try to get a more in depth experience by using public transport wherever we go), and would like any tips on good beach/cliff/hilltops accessible around the Bay Area, Golden Gate Bridge etc. Don%26#39;t worry, we will of course be seeing the city sights in between times too :)
Any good wildlife watching tips around San Francisco Bay?

Lots of bird watching opportunities at the marsh at Crissy Field.
Great hiking throughout the Marin Headlands.
Lots of park info at Golden Gates Parks Conservancy. http://www.parksconservancy.org/visit/
I recommend taking a ferry out to Angel Island. Plenty of good hiking out there, great views, and just a neat experience being so close yet so far from SF. There are some good historical sites out there too if you are interested in local history.
Don%26#39;t forget the bison pen at Golden Gate park. They may not be ';wild'; by certain definitions, but they are pretty amazing. You don%26#39;t often get to see a herd of bison.

Hi folks, many thanks for all the tips. The Golden Gate Parks website looks especially interesting - will definitely investigate. Happy days :)
