My husband and I are staying at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn April 14th-17th and are looking for 2 restaurant recommendations fairly near the hotel. Nearby restaurants are great, but we don%26#39;t mind driving 20-30 minutes for a great experience as we are accustomed to this at home.
I%26#39;ve seen mixed reviews on The Girl and Fig, Deuce, Cafe la Haye, General%26#39;s Daughter, and others.
We are really looking for a nice restaurant with nice people and great food. I appreciate any suggestions!
Looking for restaurant recommendationsHi, you will love the SMI, we have stayed there 4 times now. General%26#39;s Daughter is now Estate, I would definitely check them out. Girl and the fig and Cafe La Haye are both excellent choices for meals in Sonoma. All of these restaurants are within a 5 minute drive from the SMI. Have fun! :)
Looking for restaurant recommendationsAll of these restaurants are on or near the historic Plaza in Sonoma, which has a lot of ambiance and history. I thought if you had the web sites you would get a better idea of them and be able to compare menus.
Girl and the Fig is a smaller bistro-type place in the historic Sonoma Hotel, across from the corner of the Plaza on Spain Street and First Street West.

This restaurant hasn%26#39;t been mentioned yet, but it is excellent...El Dorado Kitchen...is across Spain Street from the Girl and the Fig, in the (also) historic El Dorado Hotel, which faces the Plaza. It is a little more upscale. Both of these restaurants have patio seating. Don%26#39;t be put off by the name ';kitchen';...a kitchen it ain%26#39;t.

I have not eaten at Deuce for a long time. It is a few blocks from the Plaza on the main street into town from the south, Broadway. I will have to tell you that I feel a little funny about it. When I lived in Sonoma, it was the mortuary, so it seems strange to have it now a restaurant. (childhood memories of spaces are hard to erase :~) The building is very pretty, however, (and that was a long time ago.)

Estate is in a lovely Victorian house which was built by General Mariano Vallejo, the last Mexican Alcalde before California became part of the United States. It was built for his youngest daughter, Natalia, upon her marriage, thus the former name of ';The General%26#39;s Daughter';. I notice that the URL for the website is still listed that way. It is not on the Plaza but a short distance down Spain Street, 0.3 mile from the Plaza, near the entrance to General Vallejo%26#39;s estate, which is now part of Sonoma State Historic Park, which includes the historic buildings on the Plaza, etc. Although the restaurant has changed management, I understand that the food is still excellent, and it has lovely spaces. You might see if there are any reviews of it on TA.

Cafe La Haye is on a street leading from the Plaza, but by a short distance, in the first block of Napa Street, as I remember. I have not eaten there. It seems small and has definite mixed reviews, but....

Della Santina%26#39;s is another often mentioned, and I have not eaten there, either, but people like it. (Well, I eaten in that particular restaurant space many times, but under different names.) It is across the street from Cafe La Haye.

I hope this gives you enough information, with the reviews on the forum to have a couple of GREAT meals.
During your visit take the time to explore the Plaza area, some of the boutiques are cool, the historic buildings, the barracks, Vallejo%26#39;s compound, etc. are worth a look-see, and the Cheese Factory gives samples, has a deli for picnics and sells wine (of course :~)
Have a wonderful trip, and please write a review for the forum when you get home.
Great info from Puter, the website for ESTATE is www.estate-sonoma.com
They have a long menu, but worth the effort! It has the same ownership, though very different cuisine and ambiance as the girl %26amp; the fig.
Cafe la Haye is a low key favorite - intimate experience there.
You will be staying at the Fairmont and Sante Restaurant is located within the property, you might consider it!
