Hello All,
My husband and I will be traveling to San Francisco for five nights next week from Thursday to Tuesday, a total of five nights. We have been there before and have done all the touristy things to do but we love it and are excited to be back. Question is should we drive to Sonoma for a day or spend one night there? He loves wine whereas I am pregnant so I would be there for the scenery and experience.
Thanks in advance!
Stay overnight in Sonoma?Sonoma the town, Sonoma Valley, or Sonoma county?
Either way, yes you should. Sonoma the town is historic and charming, built around a Plaza from the Mexican days with some of the adobe buildings still standing housing boutiques and restaurants.
The quaint village of Glen Ellen in the Sonoma Valley is a popular destination with Jack London State Park and Benziger Winerey which gives interesting tractor pulled tram tours of its vineyards, which are cerified sustainable.
The Valley is 18 miles long as has about 44 wineries.
Healdsburg is in another area, on Hwy 101 north of San Francisco, but is also a pretty town around a smaller Plaza.
And there are good wineries to visit here in the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys.
Stay overnight in Sonoma?I would recommend staying at least one night in the wine country. After a day of touring and drinking, it%26#39;s more relaxing having dinner up there and staying overnight.
Here%26#39;s a website w/ wineries and lodging for Sonoma County:

I was going to write everything that Puter wrote. I completely agree, cheers! Also, check out www.cabbi.com it can be a great alternative to overpriced hotels.
We love the Sonoma Mission Inn and have stayed there 4 times now. In Healdsburg, check out the Inn @ the Plaza, a quaint 12 room Inn with very personable service. Have fun! :)
If you do decide to visit Sonoma Valley, there are lots of non wine activities. I noticed a recommendation for the Fairmont, they have a great spa and last time I checked they offered prenatal massage : ) www.fairmont.com/sonoma
