Time to alot for travel from Channel Road Inn to LAX

My wife and I will be spending the last night of our 1 week April So. CA trip at the Channel Road Inn in Santa Monica. Looks like just the perfect end to a week!

The following day, we are departing LAX for home. Our flight leaves at 11:50AM. When would be a good time to leave the B%26amp;B to get to the airport on time? We will need to turn in our rental.

I chose the Channel Road Inn because it was reasonable driving distance to LAX it appears....also, if you don%26#39;t mind, what would be the best street route to get back to the airport from this establishment?

Thanks so much!

Take PCH south onto the 10 (it merges, you don%26#39;t need to do anything), off at Lincoln south, turning right onto Lincoln. Or, take West Channel up to Montana, it turns into 7th at San Vicente. At Wilshire (or any street, really), make a left, and one block to Lincoln, where you%26#39;ll turn right, continuing south. Either way, no huge time difference. PCH/10 to Lincoln is probably half the time.

If you want a little more interesting drive (and again, no big time difference, this is actually the way I go because if there%26#39;s going to be traffic, it will be on Lincoln) -- Take PCH, but instead of merging onto the 10, take the middle road (Mohikimo somethingorother, it%26#39;s the road that takes you up, not to the Pier, and not onto the 10 freeway) to Ocean Avenue, and turn right. This turns into Nielson and then Pacific (just a name change) and takes you through Santa Monica and Venice. At Washington, turn left and take that to Lincoln, turn right.

Lincoln takes you right into LAX - you%26#39;ll see signs directing you to the various car rental companies, but some are a little complicated to find... Which one is it?

The drive is about 25 minutes, at the most. I would leave the Inn at about 9:30, give yourself time to return the car, then wait for the shuttle to take you to your LAX terminal, getting you there between 90 and 60 mins before your flight.

Looks like we will be dropping off at the Hertz LAX location. Tough to find??

Are you referring to their main lot at 9000 Airport Bl? If so, it%26#39;s easy to find -- many car companies are on this road, just outside of the airport.

I%26#39;ll disagree with Yoga on the route. She hates driving on the freeways (I%26#39;m not a big fan, myself) but at the hour you are driving, there will be little traffic so it won%26#39;t be a problem. Besides, Lincoln Bl, while a shorter route, is an ugly one: just a commercial corridor with lots and lots of very uninteresting stores and lots and lots of traffic lights. The freeway, actually 2 of them in succession, will be moving along at a much faster pace so you%26#39;re apt to get to Hertz a lot quicker (and the drive won%26#39;t require constant stopping at red lights).

Here%26#39;s a map from your hotel to the Hertz lot. If you want to see Yoga%26#39;s route, just click on the box on the right side of the page (in the light blue area) that says ';Highways (avoid)';. Then click %26#39;update directions'; -- just below. This will show you the Lincoln Bl route.

Mapquest claims that the driving time will be 1/3 less using the freeways which meshes with my personal experience when driving during ';non rush hour'; periods.

Do tell us how it went.

Very valuable info, thanks! I will print the map and have in our travel %26#39;packet%26#39;:) 16 minute drive looks really easy. So, given this route and contingencies for any traffic, what would be a good time to leave from the hotel to the airport? 9:30AM sound good? I found out our flight is now bumped back a little, to about 12:05PM. Thanks
