Could anyone shed some light on where Century City is in Los Angeles? Would it be a good place to stay? Is it close to Sunset Blvd and Beverly Hills?
Thanks!
Where is Century City in Los Angeles?
Here%26#39;s a map of the metropolitan area that you might find helpful:
visitlongbeach.com/maps/southerncalifornia.h鈥?/a>
Here are some notes about this map:
a. Downtown (city centre) L.A. is in the center of the map within the triangle of blue lines above the words ';Los Angeles';
b. Most attractions of interest to tourists are between downtown and the ocean (Santa Monica, at the west).
c. To the west of Beverly Hills is Century City (not shown on the map). So, this neighborhood is very central for tourists.
d. Hollywood is not positioned correctly on the map. It is where the word ';Universal'; is (in ';Universal Studios';). West Hollywood/Sunset Strip is just to the west of the correctly-positioned Hollywood, which in turn is just east of Beverly Hills.
The downsides to Century City are as follows:
a. It is a business district -- a simple grid of high-rise office and hotel buildings. The area closes down at 6 pm and there is virtually no pedestrian traffic amidst the tall, empty, steel and glass high-rises.
b. If you%26#39;re relying on public transit, there are a few buses that run through the area but there are better places to stay as far as transportation is concerned.
c. Parking rates (if you%26#39;ll have a car are high in Century City: $30 or more, per night). There are no alternate places to park: street parking is banned.
Tell us more about yourself and the people with whom you%26#39;ll be traveling. What sites are you planning to visit? Will you have a car? What is your budget per night for a hotel (including parking fees)? What are your dates of travel?
How many beds do you need?
Where is Century City in Los Angeles?
Century City is a really nice area, but as Hop Skip Jump mentioned, its a business district and there really isn%26#39;t anywhere to walk to nearby, especially after dark, except the Century City mall. IMHO, its a good place to stay if you will have a car, but if you won%26#39;t, let us know your hotel budget, what you%26#39;re looking to see while in LA, and the dates you%26#39;ll be here, and we can try and recommend a better location.
I would say it is a good stay if you are on business in L.A. Although Century City is centrally located and you can easy reach within minutes places like Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood or even Santa Monica(after rush hour), you are still in Century City that besides a shopping mall gets pretty deserted at night
I would think coming all the way from Melbourne you might want to experience a little of L.A.Living, by what I mean walking outside your hotel and take in the neighbourhood, which you can not in Century City
All the neighbourhoods mentioned above are easy to be reached by driving but think about it, why not just actually staying in these areas, being able to walk around without having to use your car all the time...
Thank you for your help. I am glad you have filled me in on Century City, it doesn%26#39;t seem like the area we are after!
It is for my husband and I, basically we are looking for something fairly central in Hollywood/Beverly Hills, no more than around $150-200US per night.
We would like to be in the hussle and bustle of it all, we are not party animals, but would like to maybe walk to a restaurant or bar or two in the evening.
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks!
What time of year are you visiting Los Angeles?
August, only for a few days though.
Thanks
Look into the Best Western Sunset Plaza on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood or the Orchid, Celebrity or Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood. All centrally located and should be within your pricerange
Also, look at the Elan Hotel Modern -- a 50-room, boutique hotel within walking distance to lots of restaurants in the Beverly Grove section of L.A. -- just east of Beverly Hills and 2 blocks from the massive Beverly Center shopping center.
