What would be your choice? Both priced the same. 100/night. location very important as we are first timers without a car. thanks for any help !!

I, personally would choose Columbus Motor Inn. But there is public transit nearby both.

I think the Columbus Motor Inn probably provides superior accommodations, however, I like the location of the Grant a little better because it is closer to Union Square. Of course, one hotel is a ';motor inn'; and the Grant is an older, city center, tourist class hotel. If you are considering the Grant, I would look at:

The Baldwin

The Stratford

The Fusion

Herbert

Those are other tourist class hotels that should be in the same rate range as the Grant and in a better location - close to Union Square and flat(ter) lands.
