Time of year for wine country trip?

When do they start planting grapes? My only trip to Napa was in December a few years ago and, of course, no grapes! I%26#39;d like to go back but be able to see grapes - thanks!

The grape vines are already planted but, being deciduous, they drop their leaves in the fall.

The leaves will be coming back in the spring and the fruit will be visible on the vines in the summer.

Harvest is dependent upon the weather but is generally in October.

As you can see, I%26#39;m not much of a gardner!! Thank you for answering my poorly worded question.

Harvest starts in August and goes through October. The white grapes come in first, usually the sparkling wine facilities start to pick in early August. The red grapes take longer and usually start mid September. If you are coming to Napa or Sonoma during harvest - which we call ';crush'; - you need to book your hotel now. If you also plan on visiting San Francisco - plan on Napa during Sun-Thurs and save $$ - Union Square in San Francisco is a business district - the hotels are often less expensive on weekends. The opposite of Napa.

Have fun!

Thank you for the very informative tip!
