Hi there
Six girls doing a road trip, first leg LA to Grand Canyon National Park. Any ideas on a nice place to stay a night and break the trip? Have read abit about Needles and as it%26#39;s only really a place to eat and sleep we%26#39;re not too fussed. But would be great if it was somewhere abit fun.
Thought about a night somehwere in the Mojave National Preserve but it adds hours to the travelling time. Or does it?
Thanks
CAJ
Overnight between LA and GC National Park
There is nothing interesting on the direct route, I would recommend that you make the ~7 hour drive in one day. Sure, stop at Jedro%26#39;s Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Needles for lunch, but not overnight.
If you want an interesting overnight stopover, you would have to go out of your way to Laughlin, Nevada, about 30 miles north of Needles. You might also enjoy the ghost town of Oatman, Arizona near there.
Overnight between LA and GC National Park
I agree. Just drive straight to the Grand Canyon. There really is nothing interesting in between that is worth the detour.
Laughlin would be fun. If it is on a Sunday through Thursday, you can get a room for $29.00 at the Riverside.
Not much in Needles. Not much at all.
WOuld also suggest you swing up north a bit to Laughlin, then you can cut across on Hwy 68 to Kingman, and on to GC. Or as suggested above, take the road to Oatman and follow Route 66 to Kingman. You%26#39;ll be able to see the original old wagon road (and be on it partway) from the 1860%26#39;s.
Fuel prices are very high in Needles.
