Sunday brunch-downtown LA

Hi,

We%26#39;re attending the World Figure Skating Championships at the Staple Center. We%26#39;re staying with friends in Pasadena who want to go to brunch but are unfamiliar with options in the downtown area. They are going with us to the exhibition on Sunday. Can anyone recommend a Sunday brunch option that%26#39;s moderately priced within a half mile of the Staples Center.

Thanks.

Warning, brunch on the weekends downtown is packed. Here are some suggestions.

1) The Pantry at Figueroa %26amp; 9th - This is a venerable L.A. institution serving classic American fare in all its glory with heaping portions. I%26#39;ve never been thrilled with the food, but breakfast is fine. However, the place is packed (i.e. out the door) on weekends. With events at Staples/L.A. Live, it is evening worse.

2) Denney%26#39;s on Figueroa between 8th %26amp; 9th. Dependable, although a small location.

3) IHOP at 8th %26amp; Flower. Again, dependable with a larger capacity.

4) Panini Cafe at Ninth %26amp; Flower - I%26#39;d recommend this place. It has outdoor seating on both Flower %26amp; Ninth. Menu is good. Nice location across the street from Ralph%26#39;s and Grand Hope Park. Indeed, after brunch, take a short stroll through Grand Hope Park. This is a lovely small urban park.

5) There is also the Corner Bakery Cafe on 8th %26amp; Figueroa (around the corner). Nice, but Panini Cafe is better.

If you were willing to venture just a little further, I%26#39;d recommend the Tiara Cafe. i love it. It is on 9th further east at Los Angeles. It is an exceptional place. However, the location is not convenient for you without a car. Moreover, the location is more convenient for the Fashion District. I wish I%26#39;d have answered your question earlier. I%26#39;d have recommended it for brunch today in conjunction with a trip to the Fashion District. (Saturday is the day to go there.)

Let us know how this goes.

You know our downtown sucks if Ihop and Dennys are the number 2 and 3 options, the last cafe sounds good though, so that might be worth to check out

You also have L.A. Live next door, the Conga Room might offer some fun mexican style brunch and that way you would not have to worry about parking as ou can walk one block to the Staples Center from there

Thanks all,

I%26#39;ll run these suggestions by our friends. We are parking at the West Garage, so the point was to park and be done with it for the day. Seems like these will work.

We ended up eating at the Farm at Beverly Hills, I believe was the name. It was on the next block from the Staples Center. The friends of friends we were meeting suggested it and it was fine. Kind of noisy, but the food was good. And since they were a half hour late honoring our reservation for seven, they gave us a round of brownies. Thanks for all your help. We%26#39;re back home now with lots of fond memories of our trip. Report to follow when I get a chance.

Thanks for the update. I was thinking after I commented, ';You know, there%26#39;s probably a place for breakfast at L.A. Live.';

Good to know. As you probably noticed, L.A. Live is very much under construction.

I%26#39;m glad you shared.
